d Problem: A customer was struggling to control
the wall thickness in their large-diameter high-
density polyethylene (HDPE) black pressure pipe.
They approached Spartech to help remedy this
issue and provide a black concentrate that would
perform consistently.
Solution: Spartech R&D specifically formulated
a black concentrate to meet the standards and
regulations set by the Plastics Pipe Institute Inc.
(PPI). After switching to
the Spartech concentrate,
the customer reported zero
difficulties controlling wall
thickness in their pressure
pipes.

Spartech manufactures a variety of filled
and reinforced polymer compounds for
injection molding, blow molding, profile
and sheet & rollstock extrusion. We engineer
resins to meet advanced material
specifications. Our specialty compounds
enhance material properties through
the addition of fillers such as calcium
carbonate, mica, talc or glass fibers. Our
material development engineers formulate
custom products in order to achieve exact
customer specifications. We use a broad
base of thermoplastics, including
polypropylene, polyethylene,
and engineering resins.
Filled & Reinforced CompoundsP
roblem Solved
Problem: An OEM was experiencing a large amount of
warping and distortion after molding a vehicle instrument
panel retainer. The OEM had previously molded long glass
polypropylene for this part, but due to its dimensional
instability and the resulting deformations, a solution was
needed to allow for easier vehicle assemblage. Thus, the OEM
approached Spartech for a solution.
Solution: Spartech proposed the use of its ReinForce™
product line. This specialty compound offers an exceptional
amount of stiffness and allows for part designs with thinner
wall thicknesses that can still meet demanding structural
requirements. The OEM was able to mold the instrument panel
retainers using ReinForce™ with minimal changes to their
injection molding conditions. The new parts exhibited
improved metrology and decreased distortion compared
to the long glass PP. ReinForce™ also allows for a reduction in
weight and cost due to the decrease in the amount of material
needed.
