Belflor Aged Oaklands Park 200 x 20mm

Beach Bros Ltd was founded as a cork cutting business in 1868 by John Beach. The company, originally based in Dover, specialised in manufacturing corks for use in the brewery and pharmaceutical industries.

By the late 1870’s the company had expanded into wood turnery to supply the changing demands of the brewery industry.

During both the First & Second World War Beach Bros manufactured millions of army water bottle stoppers, cork linings for army helmets, wooden toggles for navy coats and vent pegs for use with underwater mines.

It was during the Second World War that the Directors received orders from the Ministry of Production to move to a safe location away from Dover and reinstate the manufacturing plant.

By May 1940 a lease had been signed for a new premises in Exeter, Devon. Within a fortnight over 36 staff from the original Dover site had moved to Exeter to restart production.

Following the end of the Second World War Beach Bros continued to manufacture wood bungs, tapping plugs and spiles to the brewery industry. It was during this time that Beach Bros also expanded and diversified into flooring, roofing & furniture production.

Now, five generations on, Beach Bros focuses on manufacturing bespoke timber products to both trade and retail customers including a wide range of wood flooring and wooden work surfaces.

Our 230 square metre showroom displays large areas of our wood flooring and our purpose built 50,000 square foot timber machining mill, includes the latest CNC technology.

Solid Wood FlooringSolid wood planks are milled from one piece of wood. This is the main difference between them and all types of engineered flooring. Engineered floors are made from three to seven layers of thin wood that are stacked together and then glued.

Solid wood planks are milled with a tongue and groove on all four sides - making installation quick and easy. Slightly bevelled edges on all four sides rule out variations in board height, often referred to as over-wood and guarantees an even surface. An exact fitting of the planks is achieved by slightly bevelled and backcut tongues and grooves. Stress grooves on the bottom face of the planks help prevent them from cupping or buckling.

Our solid wood flooring is available in a wide range of finishes and all our flooring can be bespoke coloured to suit any environment. See page 13 for further details.

We recommend that all of our wood floors are installed by a professional wood flooring specialist who will be able to test for atmospheric and sub floor moisture levels as well as ensuring that the sub floor is in satisfactory condition. It is normal for all wood floors to expand and contract depending upon seasonal changes in humidity. It is therefore important that an adequate expansion gap is left around the edge of all walls and any other firm building elements (staircases, heating pipes, hearths etc.).

engineered Wood FlooringEngineered Wood Flooring is manufactured from several different layers of thin wood that are stacked together and then glued. Engineered floors tend to offer greater stability and are available in two thicknesses, 15mm overlay board or 21mm structural board. Engineered hardwood flooring offers considerable savings both financially and environmentally as the use of hardwood is limited to the wear layer.

We offer a variety of tongue and groove or click jointing systems which makes installation quick and easy. All of our engineered flooring is manufactured with a micro bevel on all four sides to help define each plank and rule out any variations in board height. Our Multilayer Core & Original ranges can also be installed over most types of sub-floor including sub-floors with a wet/water based underfloor heating system.

Our engineered wood flooring is available in a wide range of finishes and all our flooring can be bespoke textured & coloured to suit any environment. See page 13 for further details.

Aged FlooringAged Flooring is manufactured from kiln dried oak which has been through a special hand aging process to give the appearance of being many decades old before being stained and hand waxed.

Our Belflor Aged range is available as an engineered or solid floor in a range of six colours or can be provided unfinished for you to apply your own individual finish. Each board is unique, with various knots (some open) and great variation in grain configuration. Installation is made easy by the tongue and groove jointing system and a micro bevel on the edge of the boards. Our Aged Flooring is produced in random lengths from 500mm - 2000mm (engineered) 2400mm (solid).

iMPortAnt: Belflor Aged is only manufactured from virgin kiln dried timber and is not produced from reclaimed timber. This process avoids many of the problems which can be associated with reclaimed timber.

Typical orders consist of sawn to size, planed and sanded timber as well as intricate mouldings to match existing skirting boards, architraves, hand-rails etc.

Our specialist machinery also includes two 5 axis CNC routers which enable us to machine complex components with ease. Our other machining facilities include wide belt sanding which produces top quality finish thickness sanding on pieces up to 1300mm wide in one pass. HArdWood decKinGHardwood timber decking is ideal for patios, walkways, verandas and sun decks. This exceptionally strong and naturally very durable timber will last a lifetime with little or no maintenance.

Lay the decking on treated 100mm x 50mm softwood joists at a maximum of 400mm centers. The joists should be set on a bed of well compacted sharp sand or fine chippings. Pre-drill the decking boards then fix them to the joists with plated, or better still, stainless steel screws, leaving a gap of approximately 5mm between boards. Finish with two coats of Liberon Decking Oil.

Bespoke European Oak Spindles, Strings and Handrail



Paperstone is a fully certified (FSC), sustainable material new to the UK and Beach Bros Ltd are pleased to be one of the few fabricators currently working with the material. It is made by layering many sheets of paper, each piece soaked in natural bio-resins, one on top of the other. The resins have selected pigments and dyes added to give the finished product the natural colours. It is then compressed in a heated press machine which hardens the paper and the resin mix making the material extremely durable.

The unique bio-resins are a closely protected secret but it is based on the very popular and durable Bakelite which was invented nearly 100 years ago. One ingredient is cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL) which is also used extensively in quality car brake pads. The bio-resins have dyes and pigments added which combine with the resin to saturate the paper giving it a solid colour all the way through the material. Because the paper is recycled post-consumer paper it has a unique texture and very fine pattern which shows on the finished piece once it has been sanded and finished with a coat of Paperstone Finish. Once installed it is virtually maintenance free.

Paperstone is available in 6mm, 12mm, 19mm, 25mm and 31mm and a choice of 12 earthy colours. The edges can be built up to create the look of thick worktops. The material is completely waterproof, capable of withstanding temperatures up to 350°F (175°C) and is extremely durable. Marks and scratches can be sanded out with simple sanding pads just like a wooden worktop. The colours will age over time, again like a wooden worktop although the material is UV resistant. It can be used in kitchens, bathrooms, living rooms, offices, schools and as exterior cladding.

StAndArd (BLocK) WorKtoPSStandard worktops are machined from hand selected solid comb-jointed pieces 40mm wide and approximately 250 - 450mm long, these are glued together to form large panels and then sanded to a smooth 150 grit for the perfect finish. They are supplied square edged and unfinished ready for workshop or site fabrication. Standard worktops can have a wider colour and grain variation resulting in a parquet style work surface. Supplied as blanks in the sizes listed, subject to stock.

classic WorktopsClassic worktops are made from full length planks (staves) which vary in width from 80mm to 150mm to make a traditional looking worktop. Each plank has a finger joint along it’s long edge which helps bind it to the plank next to it adding strength and rigidity. In some timbers we are able to offer much wider planks creating a unique appearance. The maximum length available is generally 3.6m depending on the choice of material and current stock. We offer a choice of 3 thicknesses, 30mm, 40mm and 60mm and regularly manufacture end grain chopping blocks to match the worktops.

MAde-to-orderWe can make all worktops (both Classic and Standard) to exact measurements which eliminates unnecessary waste or expense. If a kitchen plan is supplied we will fabricate all sink cut-outs, draining grooves, edge details and jointing to a customers’ choice. We have many templates in store for most sink manufacturers and can supply them ready for installation. Each worktop is made-to-order in as little as 2 weeks.

FiniSHinGAll our worktops are sealed using Liberon Finishing Oil but will require further coats before installation. All worktops come with full instructions for installation, care and maintenance. We recommend our wooden worktops are fitted by a professional.
