18 Sept 2020 – Supplement 7 of this PCN introduces an updated Communication Manager 8.1 ISO image to address issues with differences in RHEL repositories that have changed since the CM 8.1 ISO image was originally released in 2019. These repository changes can result in the installer failing to install the CM 8.1 ISO. In 2019, RHEL 7.6 was current. Since then, new RHEL 7 versions were released (RHEL 7.7, 7.8), with some changes to existing RPMs. This issue impacts the following scenarios and the installer will fail to install the original CM 8.1 ISO.

• For Azure deployments, the RHEL 7.6 VMs use the RHEL EUS 7.6 repository which no longer includes the 'extra' packages. Consequently, the repository is now missing a RPM that the original CM 8.1 .iso requires.

• On other environments, with yum using the latest server 7.8 RHEL repository, Red Hat obsoleted one RPM that is required by the original CM 8.1 .iso.

The CM 8.1 ISO file name has changed to reflect a new version number, the checksum is updated, and a new PLDS ID is associated with the new ISO.

• Communication Manager 8.1.0.0.0 Software Only Simplex/Duplex ISO (CM-08.1.0.0.890-e67-1.iso; PLDS ID CM000001544)

Note I: If a system was updated with the previous CM 8.1 .iso and the installer did not fail, there is no need to reinstall CM 8.1 using this revised CM 8.1 .iso. Note II: Always refresh the System Manager SUM Version XML file list if using Solution Deployment Manager. PLDS Download ID: SMGRSUM0001. 07 April 2020 – Supplement 6 of this PCN introduces updated Communication Manager 8.1 OVAs to address the expiration of the Avaya signing certificate used for Avaya Aura® OVAs. Reference PSN020463u - Avaya Aura® OVA Certificate Expiry. The PLDS download IDs will be the same, but the OVAs are updated. No changes to software or functionality have occurred in these new OVAs. The certificate and the signature file are renewed in the new OVAs. The OVA file name has changed to reflect a new version number and the checksum is updated.

• Communication Manager 8.1 OVAs (updated). o Communication Manager Simplex 8.1.0.0.0 OVA

(CM-Simplex-08.1.0.0.890-e67-1.ova; PLDS ID CM000001510). o Communication Manager Duplex 8.1.0.0.0 OVA

• Communication Manager 8.1E OVAs to support disk encryption (updated). o Communication Manager Simplex 8.1E OVA (CM-Simplex-08.1.0.0.890-e67-1E.ova;

PLDS ID CM000001538). Updated – see Supplement 11 above. o Communication Manager Duplex 8.1E OVA (CM-Duplex-08.1.0.0.890-e67-1E.ova;

Note: The Avaya Aura® System Manager release/version must always be greater than or equal to the release/version of the components of the solution (Session Manager, Communication Manager, Application Enablement Services). NOTE: There is no Communication Manager Security Service Pack or Kernel Service Pack being released coincident with Communication Manager 8.1. NOTE: Communication Manager 8.x does not include a default certificate. Avaya recommends using an Avaya Aura® System Manager generated certificate or third party generated certificate. NOTE: Communication Manager 8.x includes Enhanced Access Security Gateway (EASG). EASG provides a secure method for Avaya services personnel to access Avaya Aura® Communication Manager remotely and onsite. Access is under the control of the customer and can be enabled or disabled at any time. EASG must be enabled for Avaya Services to perform tasks necessary for the ongoing support, management and optimization of the solution. EASG is also required to enable remote proactive support tools such as Avaya Expert Systems® and Avaya Healthcheck. NOTE: The VMware® vSphere™ Client cannot be used to connect to AVP 8.x. Solution Deployment Manager (SDM) must be used and only SDM is supported for deploying VMs. The VMware embedded host client can also be used in some very limited troubleshooting or IP address reconfiguration use cases as defined in PSN027036u. Its usage is not supported beyond this scope. NOTE: If running CM 8.x on VMware® ESXi 6.5 on servers with Broadwell processors, Enhanced vMotion Compatibility (EVC) mode must be disabled. For a Kernel Security Service Pack (KSP) or Security Service Pack (SSP), reference PCN2107S for specific details. SSPs must also be deactivated prior to activating a new SSP. It is not necessary to deactivate an existing Kernel Service Pack before activating a new Kernel Service Pack. Doing so will result in unnecessary additional reboots.

SECTION 1A – SOFTWARE SERVICE PACK INFORMATION

Note: Customers are required to backup their systems before applying Service Packs/Feature Packs.

How to verify

the installation of the Service Pack has been

successful:

For AVP and VMware® Virtualized Environments you can verify that a Service Pack/Feature Pack/Release is activated using the Communication Manager System Management Interface (SMI) from the Administration > Server (Maintenance) > Server Upgrades > Manage Updates page, or via Avaya Aura® Solution Deployment Manager (SDM).

What you

should do if the Service Pack installation

fails?

Escalate to Avaya Global Support Services (GSS) or an Avaya authorized Business Partner. NOTE: For the initial launch of Communication Manager 8.1 there is a REQUIRED corresponding Service Pack to deploy.

How to remove

the Service Pack if malfunction

of your system occurs:

IMPORTANT: To avoid losing service, IP Softphone users should logoff thereby restoring their base phone to service before removing a Communication Manager Service Pack/Feature Pack. SECTION 1C – ENTITLEMENTS AND CONTACTS

Material

Coverage Entitlements:

Communication Manager 8.1 OVAs and Service Packs/Feature Packs are available free of charge to customers with a valid support contract for Communication Manager 8.1.x. The Avaya Service Pack and Dot Release Guardian feature controls customer entitlement to these Communication Manager software updates as described below. The Service Pack and Dot Release Guardian feature determines customer software entitlement by comparing the software Publication Date embedded in the Communication Manager release or Service Pack/Feature Pack software to the Support End Date (SED) in the Product Licensing and Delivery System (PLDS) generated license. The SED is set as the later of the warranty expiration date or the support contract expiration date.

• If the Service Pack/dot release has a Publication Date on or before the SED, the Service Pack/dot release is allowed.

• If the Service Pack/dot release has a Publication Date after the SED, the Service Pack/dot release is not allowed.

Attempting to install Service Pack/Feature Packs or releases without appropriate entitlements will fail with an error message indicating that the software Publication Date is after the SED in the license file. Avaya recommends generating and installing a license file with SED before upgrading Communication Manager 8.1 Service Packs/Feature Packs. This ensures the license file includes the most up to date SED. For more information on Service Pack and Dot Release Guardian refer to the document titled Service Pack & Dot Release Guardian FAQs. Go to http://support.avaya.com then enter the document title in the “What can we help you with?” search box. Scroll down and select the document link.
