Procedure Part 1: Observation Step 1> Gather materials Step 2> Use the scoopula to scoop a small amount of powder A onto the watch glass Step 3> Record observations of physical properties Step 4> Repeat steps 2-3 replacing powder A with the other powders one by one Part 2: Liquid Test Step 5> Use the scoopula to scoop a small amount of powder A into the first row of the spot plate (filling three spots) Step 6> Repeat step 5 using the other powders (note: the spot plate will be filled before you reach powder E) Step 7> Using the powders in the spot plate, take the 3 liquids and drop one drop of liquid one into the first row, first column (powder A) on the spot plate Step 8> Using liquid 2, drop one drop in the first row, second column Step 9> Using liquid 3 drop one drop in the first row, third column Step 10> Repeat steps 7-9 for each other row on the spot plate Step 11> Clean off the spot plate thoroughly and dry it Step 12> Fill in the first row of the spot plate with powder E Step 13> Repeat steps 7-9 for the first row Part 3: Flame Test Step 14> Using 5 strips of aluminum foil make five small bowls being sure not to make them too deep Step 15> Fill the five bowls with one powder each (be careful not to forget which is which)
