STATUS OF ENGLISH IN INDIAThe same status is not given to English as it enjoyed in India before independence

English is our second language and considered as a language of practical utility

“ Pupils are taught English for about six periods a week for six years. But it has been estimated that they hardly know 1500 words by the time they join a university.
