Before you make that assumption, do some basic research and apply for coverage through the Knights of Columbus. The Order’s Income Armor product gives you options that can help you fit this critical protection into your risk management budget. Here are two ways you can reduce your premium: 1. Choose a two-year or five-year maximum benefit period. Depending on your age, the best option is probably a policy that pays benefits until you reach age 67. But a two-year or five-year duration benefit period would cover disabilities you might encounter in your working life. 2. Choose a longer elimination period. An elimination period is the number of days a total disability must exist before benefits begin to accrue. Typical elimination periods are 30, 90, or 180 days. Choosing a longer elimination period lowers the policy’s premium. But be sure you have enough set aside in your contingency fund to account for the longer gap. As your professional insurance agent, risk management is my specialty. Let’s talk about how to protect your income, your retirement needs, and your family’s financial future. CountryFest Corn Booth For the 10th year in a row, council 9585 sponsored the corn booth at St Pat’s CountryFest the weekend of September 10th and 11th. Thank you Mark Landwehr, Jerry Reiter and Greg Walters for donating the 120 dozen ears of sweet corn. Thank you Oak Grove Lions for lending us the refurbished corn roaster. Thank you Matt Gilderhus, Clay Dehaan and Paul Teicher for organizing and running the booth. Thank you all the guys that worked a shift or two or three in the booth. The council paid for the other supplies so the church was the recipient of well over $1100. Thank you again for all your work.

GROWTH OF THE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS A Knights of Columbus council can work wonders; in fact, with its many programs, it can help change the community, town, city or neighborhood in which you live. However, a successful Knights of Columbus program depends on people taking the initial idea, modifying it to suit specific situations and local needs, then implementing the program in the way it works. Each local council evaluates the needs of their community and implements those programs and activities that are most needed in their area. The Knights of Columbus Service Program activities are designed to engage the council members in various activities across a host of categories: Church, Community, Council, Family, Pro-Life, Youth

Memebership Drive Oct 15/16 If you’ve been paying attention, our membership quota, needed to achieve star council this year is 13. We’ve only recruited 1 so for so we’re holding a membership drive at St Pat’s the weekend of October 15th and 16th. We’re in needed a few men to help pass out KC brochures before Masses and answer questions following. Please let membership coordinator Jim Isle, 763-753-2201, know what Mass you can help at.First Degree TeamIt’s about time that our council assemble a team of Knights that can host our own 1st degree exemplifications. If you’re interested in being a member, please contact Denny Behm at 763-528-1114.Second Degree AwardFor those 1st degree Knights of Columbus that attend a 2nd degree exemplification will receive a personal replica of the Carolingian Crucifix that is small enough to be carried in a pocket or can be displayed free-standing.

CountryFest Classic Car Show Just like the corn booth, the council has been hosting the CountryFest Classic Car Show for 10 years now. This year 88 cars from around the northern suburbs attended the event. Registration was free but over 150 extra people attending the car show spent money on food, beverages and games at CountryFest. Thank you Bob and Rita Peichel for organizing the event and donating the door prizes. Thank you to the dozen guys that directed traffic, registered cars, calculated ballots and passed out prizes. The council purchased award plaques for the top 10 cars at the show.

FUNDRAISING IDEAS NEEDED In order to keep supporting the church, the community and the council, we need to generate money. Over the years some of our fundraising projects have become old and boring. We have even lost access to a couple of our recycling events. So, we could use your ideas. If you think of something the council can do, please attend the next general membership meeting, the 2nd Thursday of the month, and bring it up doing “New Business”.
