Patriotic Catholic or Catholic Patriot?

ABUSE REPORT LINE:

Prison Sunday to focus on youth justice

Prison Sunday began in 2016 as an initiative from Pope Francis in the Year of Mercy to

raise awareness about prisoners and their families... “We need to nourish the roots

of our hope so that they can bear fruit … despite whatever evil we have done.

There is no corner of our heart that cannot be touched by God’s love,” Pope

Francis said at the time...Much support is needed for prisoners when they are re-

leased into the community and parishes throughout Australia can make a difference,

especially through the service of prison chaplains...Prison Sunday provides a time for

all Catholics to think about the conditions in our prisons and what we as Catho-

lics – in our schools, parishes and welfare organisations – can do to make a

difference...We thank those working in prison chaplaincy for their tireless, diffi-

cult and dedicated work, serving those unseen members of our community and

supporting prisoners’ families through trying times...We pray also at this time

for those innocent people impacted by crime and the affect that crime has had

on their lives...We remember the words in our Prayer for Prisoners, that God

has great love for us all and that he is a ‘God of Mercy and forgiveness’.

(quoted from the media release for the Australian Catholic Bishops’ Conference October 12, 2018)

UPDATE ON PEG ARDILL

Mum has been hospitalized now for 9 ½ weeks. I spent time with her this past week and she is in good spirits. Her leg is now in plaster in an effort to help her straighten her leg. This is critical for her to walk unaided. She will be transferred from Flinders to Griffith Private Hospital in the next few days to continue her rehabilitation. She has been approved for 12 more weeks of rehab. The process is a slow and at times draining one for mum. She doesn’t recommend a knee replacement for anyone over 87 years of age! She is deeply appreciative of all your prayers.

ANNUAL REMEMBRANCE MASS

Parishioners are advised that the annual Remembrance Mass to pray for parishioners of St. Mary of the Angels and others in your families and amongst your friends who have died in 2018 will be celebrated on Thursday 6th December at 7.30p.m.

AN IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR ALL OUR PARISH VOLUNTEERS

The Child Protection Unit has flagged its intention to audit Parishes in the Diocese in 2019 to ensure they are compliant with all their Child-Safeguarding protocols. In preparation for this Parishes are required to submit their Volunteer Rosters for all Parish Ministries and Activities to enable checks to be made to ensure all our volunteers have a current Police Check and have undertaken the Child-Safe Environment and Workplace Health, Safety and Welfare Inductions within the last three years. Some exemptions apply in relation to Police Checks. Those under 18 years of age, those over eighty years of age who have had a Police Check in the past and volunteers who undertake some ministry or volunteering role in the Parish less than seven times a year are exempt.

Those volunteers not covered by these exemptions who do not have a current Police Check are asked to contact Gayle in the Parish Office and obtain an Application Form. Those volunteers who did not participate in the most recent Induction are required to do so. Regrettably, if these requirements are not met, you will not be able to continue in your volunteering roles in 2019. The protection, safety and well-being of the young and vulnerable in our Parish demands that we are compliant with all our legal and moral obligations. Thank you in anticipation of your understanding and support of this matter.

NOVEMBER MASS LIST

The following will be prayed for and have Mass offered for the repose of their souls: Relatives and Friends of: Agars, Lovegrove, Cheyne, Burke, Story and Smale families, Ryan, Kelxh, Roberts families, Eddie Warburton, Martin Resnais, Thomas McGeever, Mary McGeever, Patrick McGeever, Bepo Bozanic, Joeseph Santic, Mollie and Leslie Wilson, Bill Sellen, Phyl Chester, Martin Finn, deceased priests and religious of the Diocese of Port Pirie, Wilkinson, Brewer, Whitehead, Lang and Gillings families, deceased members and friends of Sellen and Chester families.

Thought for the Week

The sad stories we read in the newspapers each day are signs of problems deep down in people’s hearts.

PLENARY COUNCIL: A CHANCE TO LISTEN, LEARN AND CONTRIBUTE

One of the decisions of Tuesday evening’s Parish Pastoral Council meeting was to provide some opportunities for our Parish Family to come together to learn about the Plenary Council and to formulate a Parish submission to the Council.

Copies of the Plenary Council Agenda Process we will utilize at these gatherings are available on Tom’s Table. RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS

Over recent years the Parish has provided an opportunity for those not of the Catholic faith to participate in an affirming journey which explores through Scripture, prayer and personal testimony the history, sacraments, teachings and richness of our faith. The Program may culminate in a person choosing to embrace and be fully welcomed into our faith community through Baptism or for those already baptised being received into Full Communion with the Catholic faith.

The Parish is intending to commence a Program in February 2019.

An Information Session for those who would like to know more is being held on Wednesday 5th December in the Presbytery commencing at 7.00p.m. (for one hour). All welcome!
