ENGINESEach truck is equipped with the 4-cycle, in-line, 6-cylinder

Cummins QSC8.3-216 turbocharged Diesel engine with 506.6cu. in. (8300 cu. cm.) displacement; 4.50 (114 mm) bore; 5.30(135 mm) stroke for heavy-duty applications meeting all EPAstandards. Standard items include 24-volt electrical system;70-amp, heavy-duty alternator with integral regulator anddust-proof starter; two cartridge-type oil filters; mechanicalfuel pump; heavy-duty dry-type air cleaner with centrifugalpre-cleaner and outside, high-level air intake; restriction indi-cator; and overhead exhaust. Maximum torque is 567 ft. lbs.(770 N•m) at 1,500 RPM. Mechanical governor governs speedat 2500 RPM.

14.9 PSI cooling system includes heavy-duty radiator, ther-mostat and bypass; and puller-type fan. Large heat exchangercools transmission oil.

TRANSMISSIONThree-speed powershift transmission and torque converter

produce smooth shifting, precise inching, fast acceleration,and withstands rugged duty cycles. Gull-wing hood provideseasy access to check transmission oil.

HYDRAULIC SYSTEMHydraulic system operates at 2500 PSI (17,250 kPa).

Restriction indicators signal when filters need replacement.

25-micron hydraulic filters are easily accessed. Two gear-typemechanical pumps provide 108 GPM maximum output. Flowamplifier saves energy by diverting only the required amountof oil for steering. Automatic, two-speed system increases liftspeed in no-load situations.

STEER AXLE / STEER SYSTEMFully-hydrostatic power steering provides fast, low-effort

maneuvering. Equal area, double-ended cylinder makes for abalanced steering system, with an equal number of lock-to-lock turns in both directions. Steering cylinder is transversemounted in one-piece welded axle frame. Wheel spindles andhubs are mounted on pre-lubed and sealed, tapered rollerbearings for reduced maintenance.

BRAKESNon-asbestos brakes are standard equipment. Service

brakes consist of hydraulic wet disc wheel brakes and discbrake on the drive line. Spring-actuated drive-line park brakeapplies automatically when pressure falls below 1200 PSI.
