Essential QuestionHow are geometricshapes identified?
There are many different
geometric shapes.
circlecircle – a shape that is round.
squaresquare- a rectangle whose four sides are of equal length.
triangletriangle- a three-sided polygon
rectanglerectangle- a shape with four sides. Each side of the shape is the same length as the side opposite it.
conecone – a shape whose base is a circle and whose sides taper up to a point.
cylindercylinder – a solid bound by a
cylindrical surface and two parallel bases
hexagonhexagon- a shape with six sides.
octagonoctagon – a figure having eight sides and eight angles.
pentagonpentagon- a shape with five sides with five angles inside of it.
equilateral triangle
equilateral triangle-a triangle with equal sides and equal angles.
isosceles triangle
isosceles triangle- a triangle which has two sides exactly the same length.
scalene triangle
scalene triangle- a triangle with no equal sides or angles.
spheresphere – a solid figure that has the shape of a ball.
cubecube - a three-dimensional shape with six square or rectangular sides.
