This plan, based on the four year Strategic Plan, outlines the school’s intentions for improving student outcomes. As a result of this work, we have already started to make decisions about the Professional Learning we need to provide for our staff in 2016. We provide this Professional Learning through before and after school staff meetings, curriculum meetings, external courses and Student -Free Days. Each year schools receive student -free days (when students do not attend school) for professional development, school planning and administration, curriculum development, and student assessment and reporting. The first day of Term 1 each year is a student -free day in all government schools to allow for planning to take place for the arrival of students. Our teachers will have that day next year on Wednesday January 27 th . Greythorn students will return to school on Thursday January 28 th , including our new Preps who will have modified attendance until the end of February as they ease into school life. School Councils approve the remaining student-free days each year and we expect to communicate those dates as soon as possible. Thank you to parents who wrote to me with requests for 2016 class placements. When the opportunity to do this closed on Friday, I compiled your requests and we started this process. Schools take many factors into account when compiling classes, including gender balance, academic needs, friendships, behaviour, teacher insights and parent requests. Additionally, our teachers have provided opportunities for level cohorts to spend time together so that children can rekindle relationships with students who are not in their class this year. They also ask your child to nominate students who are friends and students with whom they work well. With all this to consider, you may appreciate the complexities of this process. I am confident that all students will have at least one of their requests met, unless that request has been overridden by their parent’s request. As previously stated, requests for specific teachers for 2016 do not form part of the Formation of Classes policy and will not be considered. Finally: Congratulations to our PFA, once again, for the fabulous Oaks Day Lunch. This event was very well-attended and I understand a great time was enjoyed by all. Special thanks to Liddell Dawes, Deanne Tolley and Stella Axup for leading the organisation of this luncheon. It has been a very busy term for the PFA: thank you one and all for your contributions to, or support of, this dynamic group. Good luck to the Greythorn Boys Softball team who are playing in the Regional Finals today. Congratulations to our school captains, Jack and Sophia, for their preparation and presentation today to mark Remembrance Day. Well-researched and beautifully spoken. Kind regards, Kim Dray

Sports News

The year 5/6 Girls basketball team competed at Regional level in the Hooptime basketball competition last week. It was an incredible team effort by those who participated. They won 3 out of their 4 games (7-4, 2-24, 17-15 and 17-13), losing only to the eventual finalists Yarra Road PS. Thank you to coach Dean Libertone and transport manager Kate Gunton for making the day possible.

School Banking

School Banking - every FRIDAY except the last day of term. SCHOOL BANKING TROPHY: Congratulations to 2S who again won the School Banking Trophy last Friday. Keep up the good work. Will it be a new class this week? REWARDS: Following the decision last month to recall the Cosmic Light Beam Torch due to a potential safety issue, a fur-ther decision has been made to withdraw the upcoming Lunar Light Band reward from the School Banking Re-wards Program. To avoid disappointment there is a new reward item available for redemption in Term 4 while stocks last. Test your skills with a game of frisbee with the new Galaxy Glider! The Outer Space Savers Money Box is also available in Term 4. Don’t forget you need 10 silver tokens or 1 Gold token to redeem a reward. All 2015 rewards are still available apart from the handball.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED: Visit any Commonwealth Bank with your birth certificate and open up a Youthsaver account on the spot. It’s that easy. Thanks for your support. Kirrily, Kate & Elena School Banking Co-ordinators
