2Principal’s Pen Dear Field families,

Welcome back!!! I hope your family had a rejuvenating summer and a little more time to spend with each other. It is so exciting to see all of our returning Tigers and new Tigers at Field each day.

Our theme this year is “What’s Your Mindset?”.

Fortunately, as educators we have a love for learning, but often times our students don’t. As adults, we know there are obstacles and challenges in our lives. Children often feel their intelligence or talents are fixed and aren’t able to change it. We are helping our students embrace their challenges, realize their full potential and enjoy the journey, no matter the tough situations that life throws their way. Our goal this year is to continue to instill this growth, perseverance, and words to use to change their mindset.

. “Failure is success if we learn from it.”~ Malcolm Forbes

6th: Sixth grade kicked off the year by completing Eugene Field’s very first Breakout!! Each class worked as a team to decipher clues about the Civil Rights Movement. The clues led the students to a combination that unlocked one of five total locks, finally allowing them to discover their first read aloud: The Watsons go to Birmingham-1963.

The next day, the students continued the Breakout theme by participating in a completely online digital breakout. They learned about the solar eclipse we

recently experienced through a series of puzzles, quizzes, and articles.

Fifth grade is off to a great start! We have been learning about fractions, the different regions of the United States, matter, and sequencing…lots of exciting new learning happening here! Fifth grade has also been concentrating on their mindset and learning to NOT give up when things are hard. Keep up the great work!

4th: 4th grade has had a wonderful time getting to know one another, and build some lasting relationships. We have done various activities to build our classroom communities, and really focused on slowly getting back into our school routine! We

have spent a lot of time learning about classroom procedures and expectations. It’s going to be a great year of growing and learning together!

3rd: Third grade is off and running! We have begun to learn our multiplication facts and will soon learn division as well. Students are showing us how well they know and understand third grade material with beginning of year testing. This is exciting because we will see students’ growth from the beginning of the year until the end. Please encourage your student to read 15-20 minutes nightly in an independent book and to also check their homework folder for any homework or unfinished assignments that need to be completed. It’s going to be a FANTASTIC year!

2nd: Second grade is off to a fantastic start! We have been busy getting to know each other and creating a community in our classroom. The students are learning classroom routines and procedures. We know this is going to be a great year as we change our thinking and develop a growth mindset!

1st: First grade is off to a great start to a wonderful school year! We have spent the first few days of school getting to know each other better, learning about our classroom and expectations. We are reading with each child individually to see how they are doing and what they need to continue to grow as big first graders! KDGN: Kindergarteners are off to a great start! They have been making friends and learning our classroom and school rules and routines. One way they learned about each other was by doing an activity called “Find Someone Who.” The students went around the classroom and found different students who could do skills such as write their name, count to 10, and tell a rhyming word, etc. When they found a student who could do one of the things, that student signed his/her name on the sheet. It was a fantastic get acquainted activity!
