Dear Parents Classes are in full swing, with teachers working hard to implement engaging and fulfilling teaching programs. Students are playing their part by working industriously and upholding high standards of behaviour both in the classroom and on the playground. Scotts Head PS students continue to be offered a wide-range of interesting and meaningful learning experiences. In just the last few weeks alone, students have had the chance to take part in: a range of sporting activities (netball, NRL, morning fitness), the school band, coding, robotics, mosaics, aquaponics, cooking, gardening, propagating, chooks and worm care. All students have began online training in computer coding under the guidance of Mr Terry Simpson. They will learn basic principles before moving on to more complex activities. These lessons will provide valuable training and education that addresses the Technology aspects of the curriculum. It is great to see our classes so engaged in these initial activities – I’m confident that they will learn some valuable skills and knowledge as the course progresses. We frequently teach our students about road safety, and it is a message that bears repeating. You are all aware of our pedestrian crossing outside our school. Please ensure you and your children use the crossing as it is the safest place to cross the road. I encourage you to talk about and demonstrate safe practices for all aspects of road safety on a regular basis with your children. There have been a few cases of headlice reported this week. Please continue to be vigilant in checking your child/children’s hair on a regular basis. If eggs or lice are found, treat with an appropriate product. Next week we will be conducting a whole school Emergency Lockdown practice. In the event of a real emergency, such practice lockdowns and evacuations ensure that teachers, students and school visitors are aware of how to react. Thanks to Peter Johnson, Grant Watson (Stuarts Point PS), Melinda Davies and Mary Bijou (Eungai PS) for your outstanding care of our students last week at the Coffs Coast Adventure Centre at Bonville. The feedback from all involved was that it was a great success. Next Wednesday afternoon is our end of Term assembly, please come along and see the school captains get presented with their badges and celebrate a wonderful term of achievements with the first performance of our newly formed school band. Opening and naming of the Richie Donovan Viewing Deck

A great community event occurred on Saturday (10th September) with the

Dedication of the Surf Club Extension in Honour of Richie Donovan.

Richie Donovan is a Life Member of the Macksville-Scotts Head Surf Life

Saving Club. In 1967 he was one of the first Aboriginal people to achieve

his surf life saving Bronze Medallion, the same year as the famous

referendum on Aboriginal voting rights. Besides that he has won many

titles, including National Titles in beach sprinting and continues to this day

mentoring the youth of the Nambucca Valley in athletics and personal

development.

Congratulations and well done Richie!

TAFE Community Links

This Seasonal Classroom will be a

way of learning that draws together

the research describing Aboriginal

education as group orientated,

localised and connected to real-life

purposes and contexts.

The TAFE crew are doing a great

job, an amazing work in progress.

Senior Excursion to the Coffs Coast Adventure Centre

During Week 8, Scotts Head 4/5/6 students attended the CCAC

(Coffs Coast Adventure Centre) excursion along with students

from Medlow, Eungai and Stuarts Point. We did fun activities such

as Zorb ball, Circus skills, Archery, Commando Course, Canoeing,

Sumo zorb, Giant swing, Mega drop, Fencing, Leap of faith,

Ladder logs and Inner limits. In our spare time we mostly played

in the Ga Ga pit.

The activities were challenging but fun. We had to climb to great

heights, swim through mud, paddle in canoes, fire arrows at

targets and battle with swords. Our instructors were friendly,

helpful and encouraging.

Our rooms were comfortable and the food was always

scrumptious thanks to the efforts of Bruce and Chin!!

Kindergarten Excursion to the Teddy Bears Picnic

If you go down in the woods today, you're sure of a big surprise!

Last Thursday, Kindergarten and friends starting Kindergarten

next year, went to Macksville Showground to attend the Teddy

Bears Picnic. The event was held to raise community awareness

for National Child Protection Week, 4th-10th September, 2016.

It was a wonderful event with so many exciting activities!

Students were able to be creative with paints, playdough, glitter

glueing and weaving fresh flowers to make beautiful garlands for

their heads. There were balancing beams, stilt walking, skittles,

balls to throw and mini jumping castles. There were also lots of

giveaways from different community agencies who support child

and family services. We had delicious fruit platters, a sausage

sizzle and poppers. We marched around with the giant Teddy

Bear to the tunes of the Teddy Bears Picnic and joined in with

some dancing to some iconic Playschool tunes. A huge thankyou

to parents who joined us and provided transport. Also thankyou

to the 2017 Kindies, Nathaniel, Kaydee and Frieda who came and

joined in the fun! Bu Bettina and Pak Duke.
