In September 2018, NTC launched a new one-year Certificate in Theology program with 9 new students. Concurrently, a two-year Certificate in Christian Ministries for all qualifying women was launched with 7 students. This program is replacing the Women’s Program, which was limited to wives of NTC students in other programs. Both of these programs were well received by AICT leadership and are attracting a larger variety and number of students.

A new two-year diploma in Theology (accredited by AIU) program will begin in late August 2019.

In July 2018, Edina Kiulah graduated with an MA in Education. She currently serves as Academic Dean. Her husband, Method Kiulah, is our Registrar, Chaplain and Property Manager, and he is PhD candidate in Theology. At the same time, Abram Kidd also completed his PhD in Missions Studies. He serves as Deputy Principal and Dean of Students. His wife, Ashby Rauch Kidd (BA), teaches English part-time at NTC.

The Nangale family, Philbert (PhD/DSS), Esther (Cert. Christian Ministries), and Moses (BITE) continue to serve faithfully at NTC. Philbert is the Christian Ministries Supervisor, Esther is the

NTC hosted two mission seminars in December 2018 and in April 2019, for pastors, evangelists, church elders, and deacons working in the Nassa area and for NTC staff and students. Dr. Kidd’s research in the area showed that approximately 12% of the population is Christian and many Christians are unaware that the great majority of their neighbours are not Christians.

These seminars are designed to encourage mission work, starting locally, and to foster discussion. Seminar topics include Biblical foundations for missions, the history of missions in AICT, evangelism, discipleship, and spiritual growth.

Over 200 people attended the first seminar and the response has been very good. For example, one local church held a missions and outreach week partially as a result of the prompting from our seminar. They saw 58 people come to faith in Jesus or return to the Lord in April. AICT church leadership has also recognized the need for training church elders and deacons, so these seminars are timely and very relevant. NTC is planning to offer these seminars regularly.

The Nassa Evangelistic Team (NET) is an NTC student group that does evangelism and gospel outreach meetings in various areas where the gospel is greatly needed. They partner with a local pastor or missionary. The outreach meetings are typically a week long and done one to three times a year. NET recorded 107 people believing in Jesus or returning to the Lord in their most recent evangelistic meeting. In recent years, NET’s ministry had virtually stopped, but it has been revived again and we look forward to seeing NTC students continuing to spread the Good News of Jesus in other areas.

Salome Nungwana (Cert. Christian Ministries) and Joyce Kiyumbi also teach in the Women’s Program. Loyce Masalu leads the children’s program.

Part-time lecturers include Bishop Philipo Mafuja (PhD Can.), Bishop Pharles Kisena (PhD Can.), Dennis Mashiku (MDiv) and Mary Mashiku (MDiv). We also continue to have block course teachers from time to time.

In late 2018, NTC began the process of having all NTC lands surveyed and properly registered. This is an important step in the registration of NTC as an academic institution. The maps are being drawn and payment for title deeds will follow.

Africa Inland Church Tanzania (AICT) was granted affiliation status with Africa International University (AIU, Kenya) to provide guidance in other areas for registration. A delegation from AIU came to NTC in March 2019. They gave recommendations for improvement but overall were impressed with NTC’s facilities and faculty. Steps are being taken towards offering a registered diploma program in Theology from a Tanzanian accreditation board.

Recent Events

The opportunity to offer an internationally recognized diploma at NTC is an exciting development! NTC’s four-year theology program is being phased out but will hopefully be the foundation for a future Bachelor’s degree program.

The QT (Qualifying Test) program is a two-year course for adults to get their O level secondary school education. NTC began offering this program in 2018, but for lack of students, it was paused in 2019 until September. Passing O level is now required for all students in our Theology programs, in response to a need in the Church for more educated leaders.

We have received 74 student applications for 2019/20 programs so far! Praise the Lord!

NTC hosted a friendly sporting competition for fellow AICT Bible colleges students and staff. Players from Katungulu Bible Training School, Majahida Bible Training School and Malimbe Bible College came for three days to play football (soccer), netball, volleyball, and run foot races. Of course there was much singing, laughing, good fellowship and some Bible teaching too. About 150 students participated and the event was a success.

NTC has been developing relationships with local government officials. NTC invited and received official visits from the District Commissioner and district head of police (OCD) a few months ago.

On May 31st, 2019, the NTC community was shocked and saddened by the sudden death of one of our beloved students, Rogatus Francis. He died at home of a heart attack. Rogatus was a gifted evangelist and teacher, a man of prayer and loved people. He was expected to graduate in July this year. His wife, Esther, and two young children remain at NTC. Esther is expected to graduate in July and plans to continue serving the Lord.

Income Generating Projects

1

NTC is trying harder than ever to supplement its income using its own resources.

The NTC garden project has struggled in recent years. Despite the challenges, it has managed to turn a small profit from farming for the past two years. NTC is planning to revive and enhance the garden irrigation system to expand NTC’s farming capacity. This will need some capital investment to grow faster.

A reliable source of NTC income is that of rooms or housing for rent. NTC inherited an old dormitory, but it is in a state of disrepair. NTC is planning to renovate the building to use for a women’s dormitory and for guest rooms. AIM has approved

2

NTC’s request to receive donations for this project through AIM.

NTC has also been selling firewood and charcoal from its trees, Bibles and Christian books, and college T-shirts for a small profit.

NTC’s water service and tractor work continue to provide a small source of income as well.
