AUGUST 9th NEW GYMNASIUM This week there was much excitement amongst the children as Mr Goldie and Mr Thomson were able to use the new gymnasium for clas- ses. Children will have to wear rubber soled shoes when timetabled for PE so I would encourage parents to be aware when your child has PE and ensure they are wearing runners that day. We want to preserve the amazing flooring that was installed to accommodate sport. I am organising some special matting for use when we have whole school as- semblies. My thanks for Dale Goldsmith, Aaron Thomson and Colin Hartley for being so patient while the building program was in place. OFFICIAL OPEN DAY FOR NEW BUILDINGS All parents are welcome to tour the new facilities on Tuesday 14th Au- gust between 5.30pm and 7pm. Dale Goldsmith, Aaron Thomson, Colin Hartley and myself will proudly take groups of parents through the new stadium, multi-purpose room and administration block. If you would like to tour the facilities, please meet the tour guidesoutside the stadium. Please wear appropriate shoes for inside the stadium. WHOLE SCHOOL ASSEMBLIES Now that we have our lovely new gymnasium, we are able to once again have whole school assemblies commencing next Friday (17th Au- gust). PLEASE NOTE there will be no assembly this week. SECONDARY SCHOOL TRANSITION All Grade 6 children attending a Government secondary school in 2019 received a letter yesterday informing them of a placement of- fer. Parents will receive enrolment information directly from the sec- ondary school in the coming weeks. AUSTRALIAN MATHS COMPETITION On Thursday 9th August, several children in Grades 3, 4, 5 and 6 will participate in the Australian Mathematics Competition. They were chal- lenged with 25 multiple choice problems and 5 questions. The nature of these questions range from being very easy at the start and become progressively more difficult until the end when they are challenging for the most gifted student. In previous years, children from our school have received prizes and other acknowledgements for their efforts. We look forward to celebrating their results when they arrive later in the school year. CURRICULUM DAY Our next PUPIL FREE CURRICULUM DAY is on Friday 7th September. No students will be required on that day. All staff will be taking part in professional development focussing on data analysis and planning. August 9th Aust. GRADES 3-6 SWIMMING The swimming program for grades 3-6 commenced this week and the feedback has been very posi-tive. It’s pleasing to know this program is running smoothly and attended by so many children. It is so important for our children to learn to swim and learn about water safety. Thanks to Dale Gold-smith and Aaron Thomson for their brilliant organisational skills! SCIENCE WEEK 2018 – ‘Game Changers and Change Makers’ TBPS is celebrating ‘Science Week’ this term, from the 13th-17th August. The theme of this week-long event is ‘Game Changers and Change Makers’. The Science faculty will also be holding a Sci-ence pop-up stall, which has proved very popular with our school community over the past two years. The Science Fair will be open from Wednesday 15th - Friday 17th August, in the morning from 8:30 - 9:15 am, and in the afternoon from 3:00 - 3:45 pm (please note that the stall will not be open on Monday or Tuesday). For further details, please see the whole item in this newsletter. My thanks to Helen Clarke for planning this event and promoting the very important subject of Science. Graeme Russell

SCIENCE WEEK 2018 – ‘Game Changers and Change Makers’ It's nearly here! Next week, the 13th-17th Au-gust, is Science week and the theme this year is ‘Game Changers and Change Makers’. Students will be exploring this topic during Sci-ence classes by investigating scientific innova-tors, both past and present. We will also be holding a Science pop-up stall, which has proved very popular with our school community over the past two years. We are fortunate to have the support of Science Supply Australia (SSA), who are hosting the stall. There will be an opportunity to purchase fun and educational Science related kits and toys, with 15% of all sales returning back to TBPS as fundraising for our Science program. The Science Fair will be open from next Wednesday 15th - Friday 17th August, in the morning from 8:30 - 9:15 am, and in the af-ternoon from 3:00 - 3:45 pm (please note that the stall will not be open on Monday or Tues-day). The stall will be located in the Science Room (3/4 building) – signage will be in place. Purchases can be made by cash or card at the stall. We kindly ask that any orders placed be paid for at the stall, or online via the SSA web-site (www.ssapl.com.au - simply 'Register' to create an account and remember to enter **The Basin PS Fundraiser** as the organisation name). Please note that any queries regarding orders placed online should be forwarded to SSA directly. Helen Clark – Grade 5/6 Science
