Thank you to our Years 6 students

for a very thoughtful

Remembrance Day service last

week. The choir also did a great job

singing for the occasion.

It is always lovely to be able to

On Thursday 7th December, a parent/teacher interview process takes the form of a

Student-Led Conference. The Conference is the sharing of information as part of

the reporting process. Student-Led Conferences are an excellent means of involving

parents, students and teachers as partners in reflecting on the student’s progress.

The students are responsible for leading the conference, and also taking

responsibility for their learning by sharing the process with their parents. It may

involve students demonstrating their understanding through a variety of different

learning situations.

The conference is 15 minutes in length, where the students can discuss and reflect

upon samples of work that they have previously chosen to share with their parents.

These samples have been previously selected with the guidance and support from

the teacher. The student identifies strengths and areas for improvement. It enables

parents to gain a clear insight into the kind of work their child is doing and offers

an opportunity for them to discuss it with their child. It also allows for more time in

The format of this conference will depend on the age of the student and all of the

participants must understand the format and their roles prior to the conference.

Happy Birthday to

Danial Hasma Nizam, Fraser

Padman, Georgia Donnelly,

Charlotte Donnelly and Evie

Bennett who are having their

birthdays this week. On behalf

of the Puckapunyal Primary

School Community, we wish

them all a very Happy

Birthday!

Leaving? Uniforms & Date: If you are leaving

and have any additional PPS uniform that needs a

new home, we can find one! It’s always useful to

have a supply of second hand uniform on hand.

Also, according to our records, most students

leaving PPS are here until the last day of term 4. If

this is not the case, and the school has not been

informed, we would appreciate that information.

Thank you.

2018 enrolments: If you know of any children

who are planning to attend Puckapunyal Primary

School next year, please encourage them to contact

us. Enrolment forms for 2018 are due now too.

Have a terrific week!

Sue Ranger, Defence School Transition Aide

POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR REWARD

It was a huge couple of weeks for positive

behaviour with Melba receiving 239

tickets, helping them to hit the front!

Keep up the great work everyone! CURRENT SCORES

Melba - 491 points

Chisholm - 449 points

Bradman - 385points

Hume - 300 points

***Have you heard your child read today? We encourage all students to

practise their reading at home about 5 nights per week. Therefore, by now, most

students should have read at least between 185-190 nights. Well done if you

have kept up! ***

**REMINDER- Pucka News is a growing interest in the school and our community. You can

see each episode live at our school assemblies at 9am on Monday mornings. Everyone is

encouraged to come along and watch each episode. If you are unable to attend, you can follow

Pucka News by watching each episode on our Facebook page. **

Good luck to our Year 1 students

who are going to Melbourne on Tuesday

21st November. They will be enjoying

the day at Bundoora Park, the olden day

school and the great play equipment.

At assembly on Monday 11th

December, the keyboard students

will each perform one of their

pieces they have been learning.

They would be proud to have not

just their own parents, but any

other parents interested in seeing

and hearing their progress.

Peter Hagen (Keyboard teacher)

Thank you to the parents who attended the Family

Chat Group after assembly on Monday. It gave

parents and the principal the opportunity to talk openly

about many direct and indirect community topics.

Teachers are looking for students who are demonstrating ‘Caring’ to be eligible for the Student of the Week award. We

encourage parents to talk to their students about our values throughout the year.

What does Caring mean? At assembly this week, Year 6 student Ashby Murphy read out the meaning of Caring.

‘Caring is paying attention to the things that matter to you. You can care for yourself, for other people, for pets or for

special things. When you care for something you treat it with respect and concern.’

Each week at school, SRC representatives remind our

students of a few important school rules. This week

at assembly, SRC representatives, Cally Eagles and Henry

Billen reminded our students of the following rules when

playing Ga Ga:

- There must always be an umpire. The umpire’s decision

must be obeyed without any arguments.

- Only the grades that have been timetabled on for the

week can play Ga ga.

- You can only hit the ball once, unless there are only two

players in the court.

- Only when there are two players left can the other players

lean over and tap the ball.

- No ‘grabs’.

- Always be honest.

Please discuss these rules with your children to help

ensure that they understand.

Due to the Pupil Free Day this Friday, there are no

canteen lunches this week

On Thursday 30th November the Puckapunyal Primary

School will be conducting the Individual Triathlon.

It will be held at the Puckapunyal Area Pool. The triathlon

will involve students from Years 3-6 and will be a mixture

of boys and girls. Only Years 3-6 students will attend if

they have entered the event or volunteered as a helper for

one of the participants.

Distances

Swim Leg – 5 laps of indoor pool = 165 m

Ride Leg – 2km lap X 2 = 4km

Run Leg – 1.2km lap X 1 = 1.2 km

The event will begin at 2:00 p.m. and finish at

approximately 3:30 p.m. All students attending the event

will be dismissed from the pool at 3:30 p.m. There is no

cost for the day. All parents are welcome to attend and

cheer. Permission slips are on page 10.

**Remember, before school sport is a great time to

practice for the triathlon!**

Due to the success of the Years 5/6 Bike Ride, we have decided to give our Years 3/4

students an opportunity to participate in a 1 Day Bike Ride. The ride will take place on

Wednesday 13th December, therefore will only involve the students who are still here. They will

ride approximately 25 kms or so. From now on, we encourage all Years 3/4 students to begin some

training a couple of times per week. They will need to discuss this with their mums and dads. Stay

tuned for more information. We will also be looking for parents to participate too!

EVERY DAY COUNTS Primary School Attendance

Going to school every day is the single most

important part of your child’s education. Students

learn new things at school every day – missing

school can put them behind.

***Anyone who needs their

base pass updated, please

contact the school office as

they can be done before the

end of the year.***

Defence School Transition Aide Message Back at school: I trust that everyone has had a smooth and

satisfactory beginning to the school year. Changing

schools, beginning school for the first time and even

returning for another school year can be daunting for

students and parents. It is great to see parents eager to

support their children at this time and be an integral part of

their education. If you have any concerns, or just feel like a

chat about school and your child, please find me!

SWAPP Select Program

I have information about the ADF partners career assistance

program if anyone is interested.

NEW UNIFORM

We have recently had a new shipment of uniform arrive that

includes shorts, tops, tracksuit pants and hats. Some parents

***We can all work together to rid the community of

Head Lice. Let’s check our heads once per week!***

‘Knowledge is power. Information is liberating. Education is the premise of

progress, in every society, in every family.’

Quote by Kofi Annan

On Monday 4th December, at our normal Monday assembly we will conduct our famous

School Book Launch. All students are working on writing and illustrating their

very own books to be included in this special event. Each classroom will showcase one

student who will read a passage from their own book. To celebrate all students’

achievements, all books will be on display in the school foyer and corridor for the rest

of that week.

We are also very excited to have Rhonda Tallnash, a local author of children’s books,

coming to open our Book Launch at assembly. She will read some of her writing and

share some of her experiences as an author with us.

If you would like to find out more about Rhonda Tallnash and the books she has written

check out her website at www.rhondatallnash.com. Her books will also be on sale at

school throughout the Book Launch week.

We look forward to welcoming Rhonda to our assembly and we know she is looking

forward to reading some of the books that our students have written.

The students will bring their books home after the Book Launch week.

Please call into the school foyer to read your child’s and other children’s amazing books

during the week of the Book Launch!

Well done to Will Anderson who played keyboard at

assembly this week. We especially liked his 2 different

styles! Great effort, Will!

Each week in the newsletter, we will give families a summary of the Teaching/Learning Focus for the week.

That can help families by: being aware of what classrooms are covering; with discussion topics at the dinner table when

discussing school (eg. ‘How are you going with addition in Numeracy this week?’); helping their children study at home,

etc. Parents have indicated that this information is very useful. We also ask families to be aware that schools are very busy

places and events can be unpredictable at times. We therefore must remain flexible. That means that we can plan to cover

certain topics at particular times and have to change them according to arising needs.

Junior School – Preps/Foundation Rooms 6 & 8 Literacy: We are revising all vowels. We are writing sentences and using capital letters and full stops and continuing to

work on our book launch books.

Numeracy: We are revising ordinal numbers and 1-20. We continue to practise subtraction and doubles.

Junior School – Year 1s Rooms 3, 4 & 8 Literacy: .We are learning about poetry. We are revising all concepts learnt this year and continuing to work hard on our

book launch books.

Numeracy: We are solving simple multiplication and division questions using concrete materials. We are revising

fractions.

Junior School – Year 2s Rooms 3 & 4 Literacy: We are working on our book launch books and learning about poetry. We are revising all concepts learnt this

year.

Numeracy: We are learning about simple multiplication and division questions using concrete materials. We are

revising fractions. We are revising 2,3, and 4-digit numbers.

Middle School Years 3/4 Rooms 9 & 10 & 11 For Literacy and Numeracy, we will be revising concepts learnt so far this year. We will also be testing in preparation

for upcoming report writing.

Senior School Years 5/6 Rooms 1 & 2 For Literacy and Numeracy, we will be revising concepts learnt so far this year. We will also be testing in preparation

for upcoming report writing.

On Thursday 14th December, our Year 6 students will attend their graduation night - the Valedictory Dinner. All Year 6 students will need to arrive at the PC Centre by 6:00 p.m. to begin their night with a Dinner. All families are

asked to arrive at 7:30 p.m. for the Graduation Ceremony after dinner.

TIMELINE: 6.00pm Students are expected to arrive at PC Centre

6.30pm meal

7.30pm Parents arrive - presentations followed by dancing

Cost: The cost for the dinner is $25. Payment is due by Friday 24th November.

Please Note: All Year 6 students are to bring a 2 litre bottle

of soft drink for serving at dinner on the night. The bottle

needs to be at school by Friday 24th November as well.

Awards to be presented at the Valedictory Dinner:

- Year 6 Valedictorian - Student Bursaries

- Sporting Award - Academic Excellence Awards

- Striving for Excellence Award - Quiet Achiever Award

- Mitchell Shire Citizenship Award

- Lion’s Club Community Award

All students seem very excited about the big night. Good luck

to all Year 6 students. We hope they all enjoy the occasion.

DRESS: We remind families that it is a

primary school function and that school council

expects that we keep the dress code ‘neat and

casual’. We do not want students away from

school attending hair dressers, or having formal

dress/suit fittings. We also need to remind

students that our school policy of not wearing

make-up to school and school functions still

applies.

On Thursday 7th December, we are having Student-Led Conferences. The day will be a normal

school day where students arrive at 9:00 a.m. and are dismissed at 3:30 p.m. The conferences will

begin from 2:30 p.m. and finish at approximately 5:30 p.m. After lunch, all students will be

participating in sporting activities/whole school film (depending on the weather) with our specialist

teachers who do not teach grades.

A conference is the sharing of information as part of the reporting process. Student-Led Conferences

are an excellent means of involving parents, students and teachers as partners in reflecting on the

student’s progress. The students are responsible for leading the conference, and also taking

responsibility for their learning by sharing the process with their parents. It may involve students

demonstrating their understanding through a variety of different learning situations. There will be

multiple conferences running at the same time in each classroom.

Please select a preferred time slot below and return the Student-Led Conference Form to school by

Wednesday 29th November so we can try to accommodate your availability as best as possible.

As you are all aware Market Day is fast approaching. Market Day will be held on Wednesday

29th November. The students have been busy planning and are starting to get very excited about the

event.

Please note the following important information:

- If your child is bringing food as part of their stall, these products need to be nut free and must come

with a full list of ingredients

- The market will be happening from 12:30-1:30

- The students would love to see you at 'Market Day' so please feel free to come

- Find Mrs. Hartland, Mr. Humphrey or Miss McCarthy at the market and they will give you some

Pucka Bucks to spend at the stalls.

We hope to see you there!

Regards,

Katie Hartland, Damien Humphrey and Jaimie McCarthy
