Subject DescriptionsEDU400 Professional Experience Part A, B, C: 50 days comprising: Part A - 10 Days Observation; Part B - 20 Days Minor and Part C - 20 Days Major, plus other school observation visits.

EDU401 Foundations in Christian Teaching and Learning: Develops a clear rationale for your personal Christian education philosophy towards classroom management, curriculum development and learning styles.

EDU402 Human Society in the Environment (HSIE): This subject examines the NSW HSIE syllabus, pedagogical strategies, differing worldviews, the Australian cultural mix and the place of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in our communities in the context of the Judeo-Christian heritage.

EDU403 Language and Literacy Acquisition and Development: Theoretical models for the development of language and literacy from early childhood to adult learners. It also supports prospective teachers in their own ability to write grammatically correct, coherent English for a range of contexts.

EDU411 Personal Development, Physical and Health Education: This reviews the research and thinking in the fields of child and adolescent development. Specifically it focuses on physical, cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, moral and spiritual development.

EDU412 Education, Science, Technology and Change: The Key Learning Areas of Science and Technology are examined. The scientific method is reviewed and design and technology skills developed. Various software applications are reviewed and current ethical dilemmas are considered.

EDU413 Teaching and Learning English: Programming and planning are developed; specifically for listening and speaking, reading and viewing, phonology and phonemic awareness, writing, spelling, grammar, punctuation and handwriting. Critical theory is applied to genre study.

EDU414 Teaching and Learning Mathematics - Part A: Explores the growth and development of mathematical skills in primary schools children. Students critique a range of teaching methods including direct instruction, constructivist and socio-constructivist teaching styles.

EDU424 Teaching and Learning Mathematics - Part B: A focus on the classroom and how the learner perceives and constructs mathematical concepts, the impact of the teacher in the classroom and numeracy across the curriculum. Maths remediation is also offered for the pre-service teacher.

EDU421 Creative Arts: The range of philosophies and approaches to the teaching of Dance, Drama, Visual Arts, and Music. Students also develop their own skills in teaching methodology and assessment. The creative arts in the student’s spiritual journey is considered.

EDU422 The Educator’s Journey**: The student grows in their knowledge of and relationship with God. Students reflect on their faith journey, their relationships with denominations other than their own and how their faith directly impacts their teaching practice.

EDU423 Children, Families and Schooling - Special Needs: The impact and challenges of children with a range of abilities (including gifted and talented) on their school and family environments. Cross cultural, indigenous, and the full range of special needs are reviewed.

EDU501 Action Research Project - Part A**: This subject is designed for the student to achieve their NSW Institute of Teaching Professional Teaching Standards. It is also ideal unit for in-service teachers to study, especially if they are considering going on to further research.

EDU502 Action Research Project - Part B**: This subject follows EDU501, the practical part of the action research. An agreed action research project is established with their supervisor following an ethics submission. A 15,000 word report is required.

EDU503 Paradigms of the 21st Century - Challenges for the Christian Educator**: We wrestle with the current challenges to education from globalisation, political, technological and societal change. A Biblical response to change is emphasised.

EDU510 Christian Worldview**: Presents the theological foundations for the Christian worldview and how worldviews frame meaning and value for the individual and society at large. This also forms an invaluable foundation for the teaching of Religious or Christian Education in schools.

Program StructureThe Master of Teaching (Primary) is a 2 year full time (or equivalent) program with an early exit option of Graduate Diploma of Education. Each subject is delivered in intensive format with classes held at AC Central in Parramatta.
