Elementary Gifted & Advanced Studies
Cambridge Primary provides elementary school students an initial experience with Cambridge, which is one of several advanced studies options in high school. The program builds the skills students need to be successful in the various advanced studies programs listed below.
DUAL ENROLLMENT (DE)The Dual Enrollment program allows high school students to earn college/vocational credit toward a post-secondary diploma, certificate, or degree at a Florida public institution while also earning credit toward a high school diploma.
The Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) program provides advanced academic pre-university qualification for students who are studying the Cambridge International A and AS Levels. AICE offers students the opportunity to tailor their studies to individual interests, abilities, and future plans; combining breadth of study with choice and flexibility.
CAMBRIDGE AICE
ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP)The AP program provides college-level courses and exams in various subject areas. More than 2,900 universities and colleges worldwide grant credit, advanced placement, or both to students performing satisfactorily on the exams. What is Cambridge Primary?
Student Eligibility and Application Process for Cambridge Primary Cambridge Primary Teachers
Cambridge Primary is an advanced studies program for elementary school students that builds skills, knowledge, and understanding in English Language Arts, mathematics, and science. The curriculum is designed to meet the needs of the most advanced learner with an emphasis on creativity, innovation, and scholarly discourse.
Throughout the Cambridge Primary experience, students develop the skills and content knowledge necessary to meet the demands of advanced course work and ultimately transition successfully to the middle and high school setting.
Students in the Cambridge Primary program will have the opportunity to develop the good study habits and learner qualities necessary to be successful in middle and high school.
• Must be a current 2nd, 3rd, or 4th grade student
• Must be identified as gifted or high-achieving
Cambridge Primary teachers create an active learning environment in which a student’s thinking will be challenged and classwork will extend what the student could accomplish on her/his own.
Cambridge Primary teachers:
• have extensive knowledge in their subject area
• teach for depth of content, not breadth
• connect learning to real-world applications
• incorporate a variety of instructional strategies
• use assessment to inform instruction
• are reflective learners themselves
• model problem solving and creative thinking for their students
Participation in the Cambridge Primary program is not automatic or guaranteed.
Parents may choose to sign a letter of commitment for their child to participate in Cambridge Primary.
Applicants will be considered based on:
• academic excellence
• commitment to the program
