POSTER MAKING CONTEST MECHANICS

1.The poster making contest is open to all college and university students nationwide per regionalcouncil. The winning entry in the regional level will automatically be the official entry for the nationalcontest. 

2.Submission of entries for the poster making contest is coursed thru the PLAI Regional Councils. 

3.The poster should be a visualization of the 2019 National Book Week theme “Inclusive. Innovative.Interconnected.” (Filipino translation: Magkakasama. Makabago. Magkakaugnay.) 

4.There will be two categories:a. Manually drawnb. Digitally drawn

5.The following materials to be used in the contest: 

Manual:a. Use white illustration board, 15” x 20” in size.b. Contestants may use any medium: oil pastel/cray-pas, markers, ink, mixed media, oil, acrylic andwatercolor

 

Digital:a. The finished posters should be 8.5x11 inches (300 DPI) in size, portrait layout.b. The file should be in JPEG formatc. Poster designs containing clip art and downloaded brushes is discouraged.

6.Entries must be original and unpublished.

7.The winning entry in the regional level should be submitted by their corresponding PLAI RegionalCouncils together with the entry form (see Appendix) on or before September 16, 2019, Monday. Forposters which will be submitted via e-mail ([email protected]), the entry form shouldbe attached as well in PDF or JPG format.

KOMIKS MAKING CONTEST MECHANICS:

1.The komiks making contest is open to Grade 7-12, all college and university students, indie andprofessional artists nationwide. 2.There will be two categories:

a. Junior - open to junior high school (grades 7-10) and senior high school (grades 11-12)b. Open – open to college, indie and professional artists

 3.Submission of entries for the junior category is coursed thru the PLAI Regional Councils.Regional Councils together with the entry form (see Appendix) on or before September 30, 2019,Monday. While for the open category, submission of entries must be in pdf and submitted via email([email protected]) on the same date. 4.The komiks should be a visualization of the 2019 National Book Week theme “Inclusive. Innovative.Interconnected.” (Filipino translation: Magkakasama. Makabago. Magkakaugnay.) 5.Participants are encouraged to create their own komiks with original characters and story with aminimum length of 8 pages and a maximum of 16 pages including cover. 

Manually drawn and digitally drawn work are accepted. Original work is encouraged; stock use ofclip art is discouraged except for use as reference. Note though that submissions are in pdf format somanually drawn entries must be scanned.

 Suggested parameters of the work are 6’ x 9’ to A4 target size at 300 dpi minimum.

 6.For the Junior category, there is a limit of one entry per school. 

Works previously published or previously submitted to other contests will not be accepted.

Prize to be awarded is per entry, meaning if more than one person is involved in the work (writer,artist, letterer) then the award will be shared between them.

SPOKEN WORD POETRY MECHANICS

1.Eligible to join the Contest are 10th grade junior high school (JHS) as well as 11th and 12th gradesenior high school (SHS) students of ANY STRAND within the National Capital Region (NCR) publicschools. 2.Participants should be officially endorsed by their School Division Office thru their LRMDS and only oneparticipant per Division. Names should be submitted by September 27, Friday via email([email protected]) or thru this link [link to follow]. NBW 2019 Committee willschedule an orientation (July 2019) for Schools Division Offices who will be conducting their own SpokenWord Poetry contests. 3.Contestants are encouraged to draw inspiration from Filipino authored books and 2019 National BookWeek theme “Inclusive. Innovative. Interconnected.” (Filipino translation: Magkakasama. Makabago.Magkakaugnay.) 4.Coaches are required to attend an orientation to be conducted by the NBW Working Committee onOctober 5, Saturday at Quezon City Public Library conference room at 8 AM-11 NN. 5.The finals will be held on October 24, Thursday. Venue: TBA 

6.The following are the criteria for judging:Organization (clarity of thought, structure, coherence)         -           25%Delivery and Style (unique storytelling, performance )          -           25%Language (suitable descriptive language, word play )          -            25%Content (depth of concept, relevance of theme)                    -           25%

7.Participant may submit only one (1) entry, written in either English and Filipino and regionallanguages depending on the participant’s preference, which will be given to the designated personnel atthe registration booth. 8.Participants shall submit four (4) letter-sized printed copies of their entry.

9.Entries shall have the following specifications:a. Font size 12b. Font type Arial, Times New Roman, Calibri, or Book Antiquac. One-inch margin on all sidesd. 1.5-line spacing and 0 pt. before and aftere. Stanzas separated with one space in between

 10.Spontaneous delivery is preferred, however, they can use their printed guide/kodigo on stage. 11.Use of school uniform, costume, make-up are not allowed. 12.The entry to be submitted should be an original work of the student. If the participant is proven tohave committed plagiarism in any way, even if unintentional, he/she will be disqualified or, if theunethical act was discovered after the contest, then the award and certificate will be revoked. 13.The Winners will receive the following prizes.

1st Prize – P 5,000.00 and a Certificate of Recognition for the school2nd Prize – P 4,000.00 and a Certificate of Recognition for the school3rd Prize – P 3,000.00 and a Certificate of Recognition for the school

ESSAY WRITING CONTEST MECHANICS

1.The essay writing contest is open to Grades 7-12 students of public and private secondaryschools nationwide per regional council. The winning entries in the regional level willautomatically be the official entries for the national contest.  2.Submission of entries for the essay writing contest is coursed thru the PLAI Regional Councils. 3.The theme of this year’s essay writing contest is “Inclusive. Innovative. Interconnected.” (Filipinotranslation: Magkakasama. Makabago. Magkakaugnay.) 4.There will be two categories:

a. Filipinob. English

 Participants may also submit their official entry with a corresponding translation in theirregional language. This will also be published online and in the 2019 National Book Weekprogram together with its Filipino or English counterpart if the entry wins the category that it isin. 

 5.The essay must not be more than 300 words, legibly written on paper for those who prefer tosubmit it via mail or encoded on a word document file (Font size 12, Arial or Times New Roman) forthose who prefer to submit it electronically. 6.Entries must be original and unpublished. 7.The winning entries in the regional level should be submitted by their corresponding PLAIRegional Councils together with the entry form (see Appendix) on or before September 16, 2019,Monday. 1.The Student Category is open to groups of grades 4-6 pupils (min. of 5, max. of 10) from public andprivate schools in Metro Manila. 2.The group of participants should be officially endorsed by their school. Only one group in one school isallowed to register. Names should be submitted by September 27, Friday via email([email protected]) or thru this link 3.Registered participants and coaches are required to attend an orientation to be conducted by NBWWorking Committee on October 5, Saturday at Quezon City Public Library conference room at 1 PM- 4 PM. 4.The finals will be held on November 4, 2019, Monday Venue: TBA 5.All finalists shall deliver any Filipino award-winning story in 5 minutes. 6.Use of school uniform, costume, make-up and microphone are not allowed. 7.The criteria for judging will be as follows:

Quality of Selection and Staging:                                           -           20%    (Literary value, tasteful, appropriate, difficulty,

effective use of the stage, blocking and movement)     Vocal Delivery:                                                                        -           25%

PINOY BOOK CHARACTER PARADE

1.All grade school and high school students from both public and private schools in NCR are highlyencouraged to participate. 

2.A maximum of two (2) representatives per school may register for this activity. 

3.Participants will choose a book character that they are portraying and must prepare 2-3 famouslines from their chosen Pinoy book character. 

4.The following are the criteria for judging:Originality                                                                                            -    20%Creativity (costume appeal, use of props to accentuate the outfit)   -    35%Characterization (character portrayal, stage presence,

delivery of lines, etc.)                                                                        -     35%Audience impact                                                                                  -     10%

W.I.T. (Write, Illustrate and Tell Story) Fora and Workshop

The W.I.T (Write, Illustrate and Tell Story) is a creative workshop that focuses on tellingstories through writing and illustration. The fora and workshop will showcase resourcespeakers who are writers, illustrators, and storytellers. This free workshop is for thelibrarians, library in-charge, library staff and teachers as an additional program of theNational Book Week 2019.

1. Illustrate workshop will enable the participants to learn and express their creative sidewith drawing tips and ideas from the illustrator.2. This activity is limited to 25 participants.3. Participation to the writing fora and workshop will be open to the librarians, library in-charge, library staff, public and private grade school and high school teachers.4. The maximum time schedule for this activity will be 2 hours.5. To join this activity, the participants’ names should be registered and submitted to theNational Book Week 2019 Committee by September 27, 2019.  Interested participants mayregister here: [link to follow] III. Tell Story or Storytelling Workshop
