Q — What if I attend school in the Desert Sands Unified School District where school doesn't get out until Wednesday, June 13?

A — Your best bet is to work it so you can be absent from school from Friday noon (June 8) until Tuesday morning (June 12). All of the other districts dismiss for the summer on Friday at noon. It was impossible to schedule the camp differently.

FAQQ — Where will the bus pick us up to go to

Camp?A — The bus will leave from Indio and will

also stop in Palm Springs. There may be a third point. You will be notified of definite pick up spots and times after you register.

Q — What should I take with me to Camp?A — We'll provide you with a list of items. Nothing

complicated. And if you need a sleeping bag, we can provide one for you.

Q — I need to take medication. Who should I talk to?

A — The medical form you will fill out has a place to list medications. After you arrive at camp, you will talk with the camp nurse regarding medications.

Q — Will there be vegetarian options for meals?A — Yes, vegetarian is always an option.

Q — How much does the camp cost?A — Attending camp doesn't cost you anything.

The camp has been provided by a generous donor. See front of flyer.

Q — What kind of activities will we be doing?A — The list of activities is “endless.” For ideas,

see those listed on the front of the flyer. And that is just the beginning. And you will have time to rest and relax at 7,000 ft.

Q — How do I apply to attend?A — Apply on line. Begin the process by going to

www.SafeSchoolsDC.org

Q — If I have further questions, who should call or message?

A — (760) [email protected];

Carly

"I was actually really nervous about going to the camp because I don't have the greatest social skills and I was worried that I had made a mistake and that I wasn't

going to enjoy being at the camp at all. My entire thought process changed once I got off the bus and we were being put into our groups and meeting our leaders because I was surrounded with all types of people from our community. For me that was huge

because for the first time in my life I realized that I wasn't alone.

Everyone there at camp was there for a reason and for me that reason was because I needed to build a community of support. I was struggling with my gender identity at

the time and had not come out at camp yet. By participating in the activities and forming new bonds, internally I began to accept myself. I became more comfortable

with myself and my identity. I truly believe that had I not gone to that camp I wouldn't have been able to accept my gender identity enough to be able to come out when I did.

I definitely would go again if they did a camp for college LGBTQIA+”
