Nelson Apiaries & Buppert’s Farm Market

 “The Buzz on Honey!”

Jeff and Helen Nelson are proud to work with Joe and Deb Buppert, in bringing

you all the” farm to table goodness” found at their Market! Once again this year, you can

find varietal honey like Black Locust, Clover, Meadowfoam, and Raspberry along with

our “Maryland’s Best” local Wildflower honey! Our “Honey Harvest Farm” label is your

assurance of quality and purity.

Varietal honey is from a single floral source, and ours is natural “Grade A” table

honey. In most cases, it is shipped to us raw from select U.S. beekeepers we partner

with because of their integrity, and commitment to beekeeping and honeybees. Our

local Wildflower honey is sold as natural or raw. The difference is based mostly in the

processing.

Natural honey is processed by warming the honey to no more than 120oF, then

straining it through cheesecloth. This ensures all the nutrition naturally found in honey

from the hive, including active pollen. The end product is pure, healthy liquid honey -

ready to pour or spoon into your favorite recipe, drink, or dish! Raw honey is determined

by the definition and standards set forth by the USDA. You can feel confident that our

raw Wildflower honey meets all the USDA requirements to be labeled as “Raw” honey.

Raw honey is closest to the state of honey stored by the honeybees in the hive.

After harvesting, the honey is gently warmed under close temperature monitoring, to no

more than 100o F until it is liquid. Then, it is poured through a single layer of

cheesecloth, bottled, and capped. Period. As with our natural honey, you will enjoy all

the nutritional health benefits of B-vitamins, trace minerals, and active pollen.

Both Natural and Raw honey will crystallize. This is how it preserves itself. You

will find that raw honey will crystallize quickly, with the texture changing from liquid to a

thicker granular consistency that melts on contact with warm food and drink. Raw honey

is often eaten to ease allergies associated with flowering plants and trees.

So, what is your pleasure? Natural or Raw, honey is a whole food that is

healthful, flavorful, and useful in so many ways! Questions? Call us anytime at
