Cigarette Smoking isn't cool
•Cigarette smoking causes deaths of nearly
480,000 people in the United States alone.
•It causes more deaths than a combination of
HIV, alcohol use, illegal drug use, motor
vehicle injuries, and firearm related incidents
•Sadly enough, majority of this deaths are
premature in nature
• Risk of death from smoking has increased in
the last 50 years in both men and women
•This is the reason why I selected this topic.
My main aim is to reach out to all smokers in
order to cut down on deaths resulting from
smoking

The Problem
•Every day, more than 3200 individuals below
18 years smoke their first cigarette
•Approximately 2100 youths and adults
become smokers
•About 1:5 adults and teenagers smoke
•In 2011 alone, almost 20% of U.s adults
smoked cigarettes
•Another 18% of high scholars in USA smoke
cigarettes

Why smoking cigarettes is harmful
•Most cigarette smokers end up suffering
from major health effects which cause their
death
•Research shows an estimated 20 million
Americans to have succumbed from cigarette
smoking since 1964
•2.5 million of this deaths have been through
second hand exposure to cigarette smoke
•8.6 million people have a serious disease
caused directly by smoking
•Smokers die premature deaths by up to 13
to 14 years younger than non smokers

Respiratory health problems
•Approximately 9 in 10 lung cancers are due
to smoking cigarettes
•Almost 8 in 10 cases of chronic obstructive
pulmonary disease are due to smoking. COPD
has no cure
•Smoking increases your chances of getting
Tuberculosis and dying from it
•IN young children and teens, is smoking
slows down lung growth
•Lung cancer is the leading cause of death in
men and women in the USA.

Why you should quit smoking
•You will cut your cardiovascular risks of
getting a heart attack
•Your risk of getting a stroke will fall sharply
once you stop smoking
•Your health risks for other cancers will also
drop tremendously once you stop smoking
•Your risk of getting a lung cancer drops by
half ten years after you quit smoking
