Presumptive Eligibility Summary

• Begins January 1, 2014

• Applies to certain Family & Children Medicaid groups

– MAF, MIC, MPW, MFC, MAF-D, MAF-W

• Limited period of coverage

– Begins on the day the PE determination is signed

– ends on last day of the month following the month presumptive eligibility was determined or the day DSS disposes the regular Medicaid application.

• Eligibility determined based on household and income

• Limited to once per pregnancy for MPW or once per two year period for other Medicaid groups

• Notify DMA of election to make presumptive eligibility determinations

• Agree to make presumptive eligibility determinations consistent with state policies and procedures

Provider Enrollment Process

• Sign the Presumptive Eligibility Determination Provider Agreement

– NPI valid in NCTracks

– Name and demographic information must match NCTracks provider record

– Taxonomy must be correct for provider type

– Signed and dated with an original signature

Provider Enrollment Process

• Provide name and NCID of each staff person determining presumptive eligibility

– Used to access NC FAST

– May use existing NCID or obtain at https://ncid.nc.gov

– Unique to each individual

– Cannot be transferred or shared

• Report status changes to DMA Provider Services

– Staff changes

• NCID linked to hospital NPI

– Change of ownership or NPI

– Change in desire to complete PE determinations

• Written and sent via certified mail
