A cross is a geometrical figure consisting of twolines or bars perpendicular to each other,

dividing one or two of the lines in half. The lines

usually run vertically and horizontally; if theyrun diagonally, the design is technically termed asaltire.

The cross is one of the most ancient humansymbols, and is used by many religions, such as

Christianity. It is frequently a representation ofthe division of the world into four elements

(Chevalier, 1997) (or cardinal points), oralternately as the union of the concepts of

divinity, the vertical line, and the world, the

    horizontal line (Koch, 1955).

    The plus-minus sign () is a mathematical

symbol commonly used to indicate the precisionof an approximation, or as a convenient notation

for a value that can be of either sign.

In mathematics, the sign is pronounced "plus orminus" and indicates that there are two possible

answers: one positive, and one negative. In mostexperimental sciences, the sign is pronounced

"give or take" and indicates an inclusive range ofvalues that a reading might have.

The Declaration of Independence determined that the State of Israel will be openfor Jewish immigration and for the Ingathering of the Exiles; it will foster thedevelopment of the country for the benefit of all its inhabitants; it will be basedon freedom, justice and peace as envisaged by the prophets of Israel; it will ensure

complete equality of social and political rights to all its inhabitants irrespective ofreligion, race or sex; it will guarantee freedom of religion, conscience, language, education and culture; and it will safeguard the Holy Places of all religions. In thevery midst of the onslaught launched against it, the State of Israel extended itshand to those who sought i ts destruction, in an offer of peace and good neighborlinessThe Declaration of Independence mandated the adoption of a Constitution. Alpha is the first word of the Alphabet, It implies Importance is high while the Innocent Western or

The word "alphabet" came intoMiddle English from the Late Latin word Alphabetum, which in turn

originated in the Ancient GreekAlphabetos, from alphaandbeta, the first two letters of

    theGreek alphabet.[1]

Alphaand beta in turn came from the first two letters of the Phoenician

alphabet, and meant oxand houserespectively. There are dozens of alphabets in use today, the

    most common being Latin,[2]

deriving from the first true alphabet, Greek.[3][4]

    Most of them are

composed of lines (linear writing); notable exceptionsare Braille, fingerspelling (Sign language),

    and Morse code.

Saturday is the only day of the weekin which the English name comes fromRoman mythology. The

English names of all of the other days of the week come from Germanic polytheism. In India,

Saturday is Shanivar, based on Shani, the Vedic god manifested in the planet Saturn. In the Thai

solar calendar ofThailand, the day is named from thePali word for Saturn, and the color associated

with Saturday ispurple. The Celtic languages also name this day for Saturn: Irishan Satharn or dia

Sathuirn, Scottish GaelicDisathairne, Welshdydd Sadwrn, BretonSadorn or disadorn.

The Transit Center at Manas serves as a crucial supply route for US-led forces in Afghanistan.

The US has stopped all troop flights to Afghanistan from its controversial air base in Kyrgyzstan, a dayafter the country's new leadership said it would close the key military base in the country.

No reason was given for the decision taken by the US commanders at the Transit Center at Manas

(formerly Manas Air Base), a crucial hub for the US-led operations in Afghanistan.

The US military in Kyrgyzstan decided late Friday "to temporarily divert military passenger transportflights," Major John Redfield, a spokesman for US Central Command said.

Decisions on continuing other military flights "will be made on a case-by-case basis," he said.

Rickardo Bodden, another spokesman for the US military base, told Reuters that "while normal flightoperations at Manas had resumed on Friday, a decision was taken Friday evening to temporarily divertmilitary passenger transport flights."

Pentagon officials say Manas is central to the war in Afghanistan as about 50,000 US-led troops passedthrough the base last month alone.

The developments come amid political upheaval in the strategic Central Asian state. The opposition, ledby ex-foreign minister Roza Otunbayeva, has taken power and dissolved the parliament. Otunbayeva haspromised a new constitution and a presidential election at some point in the next six months. She says acare-taker government will serve as both presidency and parliament for now.

On Saturday, members of Kyrgyzstan's self-proclaimed new leadership have announced their plans toshorten the Pentagon's lease on the base at Manas International Airport near the capital Bishkek.

This comes as mourners in Bishkek are to say their last farewells to some 75 people killed in the uprisingin recent days.

The unrest has also left more than 1,500 wounded.

The pontiff has himself faced allegations that he failed to take action against predator priests when heserved as the Vatican's watchdog for morals and doctrinal issues and earlier as the archbishop ofMunich.

About the documents, Vatican's deputy spokesman the Rev. Ciro Benedettini told Reuters, "Then-Cardinal Ratzinger did not cover up the case but wanted it studied with greater attention for the good ofall persons involved."

In studies of religion, modern Western societies are generally recognized as secular. This is due

to the near-complete freedom of religion (beliefs on religion generally are not subject to legal or

social sanctions), and the lack of authority of religious leaders over political decisions.Nevertheless, religious beliefs are widely considered a relevant part of the political discourse in

many of these countries. This contrasts with other Western countries where religious referencesare generally considered out-of-place in mainstream politics.

Among the first to delineate the nature of a secular society, D. L. Munby characterizes a secular

    society as one which:

    1. Refuses to commit itself as a whole to any one view of the nature of the universe and therole of man in it.

    2. Is not homogenous, but is pluralistic.3. Is tolerant. It widens the sphere of private decision-making.4. While every society must have some common aims, which implies there must be agreed

on methods of problem-solving, and a common framework of law; in a secular societythese are as limited as possible.

    5. Problem solving is approached rationally, through examination of the facts. While thesecular society does not set any overall aim, it helps its members realize their aims.

    6. Is a society without any official images. Nor is there a common ideal type of behaviorwith universal application.

Positive Ideals behind the secular society

    1. Deep respect for individuals and the small groups of which they are a part.2. Equality of all people.3. Each person should be helped to realize their particular excellence.4. Breaking down of the barriers of class and caste. [21]

Modern sociology, has since Durkheim often been preoccupied with the problem ofauthority in

secularized societies and with secularization as a sociological or historical process. Twentieth-century scholars whose work has contributed to the understanding of these matters include D. L.

Munby, Max Weber,Carl L. Becker, Karl Lwith, Hans Blumenberg, M.H. Abrams, Peter L.Berger, and Paul Bnichou, among others.

Some societies become increasingly secular as the result of social processes, rather than through

the actions of a dedicated secular movement; this process is known as secularization. WikipediaOnline
