Press Release Sunday December 29th, 2019 Corinth, N.Y. - The USA will field strong Senior Men’s and Women’s teams in the upcoming 13th Annual WSSF World Snowshoe Championships in Myoko Japan February 14th-16th, 2020. The U.S. Women will be led by 2018 WSSF Women’s World Snowshoe Champion and two me US Naonal Women’s Champion Michelle Hummel of Albuquerque, NM. Addionally, she has claimed two third place podium finishes in the 2017 (in the USA) and 2019 (in Italy) WC’s. A recent win this past August in the 2019 Copahue Extemo 20km Snowshoe Race in Argenna indicates she is ready to take on the World’s best snowshoe women once again, leading a strong team of US athletes. Team USA features several other women who should be near the front of the pack in the women’s 12km field; Samantha Lewis (ID), Amber Ferreira (NH), Sarah Canney (NH), Myra Kleke (OR), Jennifer Britz (ME), Tina-Marie Poulin (NY) and Erika Reed (CA), with Fer- reira, Britz, Canney, Kleke and Poulin all having top 10 finishes in past WC’s. Siggy Buerger of MI, the current 2019 US Women’s Junior Naonal Snowshoe Champion, will carry the US hopes in the Junior Women’s 5km WC race. Buerger’s 2019 US Junior Naonal Snowshoe teammate, Andrew Tyson of WI, the current US Junior Men’s Naonal Snow- shoe Champion, will carry the Red, White and Blue in the Junior Men’s 5km WC event. The US men’s team is equally strong and features 2017 WSSF Men’s World Snowshoe Champion Joseph Gray of CO AND six me US Men’s Naonal Snowshoe Champion Eric Hartmark of MN! Both sport lengthy resumes of accomplishments at World Championship level compeons. Also expected to be near the front of the field are; Ma Medeiros (NY), and 2019 US Naonal Snowshoe teammates Jeff DeVries (MI) and Cole Crosby (NJ). DeVries is the 2019 US Snowshoe Marathon Men’s Naonal Champion while Crosby claimed the 2019 US Snowshoe Half Marathon Men’s Naonal tle. Several other US men will be vying for age group awards compeng against athletes from; Japan, Canada, Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Australia, Sweden and In- dia.
