It also supplies 169 Trane-owned part centers and 420+ franchise partners, wholesalers and distributors. Trane expanded into unitary systems in 1961. Unitary systems combine heating, cooling, and fan sections all in one or a few assemblies for simplified application and installation. They are used in most classes of buildings, from schools to offices to retail, particularly where low initial cost and simplified installation are important. Trane commercial unitary systems feature integrated controls engineered to create the best possible comfort environment. In 1925, Reuben Trane invented a new type of heat transfer device known as the convector radiator. This highly efficient, lightweight replacement for the bulky, slow-responding cast iron radiator launched The Trane Company on its road to success. The heat transfer surface used within the convector radiator is a patented concept and today is regarded as the most widely used heat exchanger in the HVAC industry.

The Mausoleum of Emperor Qin Shi Huang in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province, China has been a Trane landmark building since 2004.

The year 2013 marks the 40th anniversary of Trane Air Conditioning Economics, or Trace™, a design-and-analysis tool that helps heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) professionals optimize the design of a building’s HVAC system, based on energy utilization and life-cycle cost. Introduced in 1972, it was the first of its kind and quickly became a de facto industry standard.

One of the first of its kind in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) industry, the Trane Axion™ Variable-speed Water-source Heat Pump (WSHP) is the most energy-efficient WSHP from Trane yet. It offers an innovative variable speed solution for increased energy efficiency and reduced operating cost – without sacrificing comfort.

Since it began in 1925, Trane’s Graduate Training Program (GTP) has held two classes annually for most years. Nearly 8,700 participants have gone through the GTP, including sales and marketing engineers from more than 50 countries worldwide.

The Trane’ total number of U.S. patents to date is just over 900. The Trane number of individual inventors is 555.

The Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia has been a Trane landmark building since 2006.

In 1938, Trane developed a new type of water chiller with a centrifugal compressor. Known as the Turbovac, it was the forerunner of today’s CenTraVac chiller and it defined Trane as a pioneer in the new field of air conditioning.

Trane provided the air conditioning system for a McDonald’s in the resort town of Bertioga, Riviera de São Lourenco in Sao Paulo, Brazil that opened in 2008. The restaurant boasted the notable distinction of being the first Latin American “green” restaurant – meeting low impact construction standards and using architectural technologies regarding renewable energy, sustainable water management, and building materials.

In 2011 Alpla, an international leader in the plastic packaging industry, installed high-efficiency systems accompanied by centralized, continuous service from Trane. These innovative, energy-saving infrastructure upgrades and extensive, global preventive maintenance program lowered Alpla’s energy use an average of 14.5 percent per year. This is the equivalent of reducing 24,266,000 kilograms of CO2 (or annual greenhouse emissions) by removing 4,758 passenger vehicles from the road.

Since 1938 the Trane EarthWise™ CenTraVac™ Centrifugal Liquid-cooled Chiller has the lowest emissions, with a field-documented leak rate of less than 0.5 percent.

In 2012 Trane collaborated with Cedrob, the largest self-sufficient poultry farm and processing plant in Europe. Part of the job installing two turnkey cooling and refrigeration systems (one in its processing plant, one in its hatchery).

As of the end of November 2012, about six weeks after “Super storm” Sandy pummeled the U.S. Northeast, nearly 4,000 tons of temporary cooling units from Trane Rental Services had been installed in the lower Manhattan flood area.

K. Raheja Corp., a leading developer of commercial and residential real estate in India, made a very large commitment to environmental stewardship in 2012, with help from Trane. It committed to ensuring that all of its future projects undertaken anywhere in India will be LEED-certified Green Building projects. The developer engaged Trane to install high-efficiency, low-emission solutions at many of their office buildings. Trane is also advising consulting engineers on optimizing K. Rajeha’s system design and operation, as well as providing software to help with design and analysis.

Trane collaborated with Lakota Schools in southwestern Ohio on energy-efficient facilities upgrades that will lower the schools’ operating costs and provide it with additional utility rebate dollars.

Trane expanded operations and built a manufacturing plant in Clarksville, Tenn., in 1958.

In 1958 Trane expanded globally to acquire a minority interest in CEMAT, a French corporation in Epinal, France, which it renamed Societé Trane. In 1974 Trane opens a second Societé Trane factory location in Charmes, France, expanding further into Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Since 1938 Trane EarthWise™ CenTraVac™ Centrifugal Liquid-cooled Chillers have been the most efficient. They are selectable with full load efficiencies down to 0.45 kW/ton at AHRI conditions and integrated part load values (IPLVs) down to 0.305 kW/ton.

In 2012 Trane helped the Rock Creek Unified School District 323 in Kansas complete significant energy efficient upgrades that will save the district significant dollars per year.

Located at the center of London’s financial district, 30 St Mary Axe – also known as “The Gherkin,” has been a Trane landmark building since 2003.

In 2012 Trane collaborated with the Commonwealth of Virginia on two of the biggest solar panel installations in the commonwealth, along with a third smaller one, in and around Richmond, Va.

The Tracer™ R’newal Controls Upgrade Program started in 2007 to help maximize building performance, improve occupant comfort, and increase operational productivity. In 2013, Trane controls will celebrate their 35th anniversary.
