PSL are delighted to receive these two honours, being awarded the Queen’s Award for Innovation and also International Trade. PSL was one of the six small and medium sized companies to achieve the double recognition. It was 17 years ago when PSL won the Queen’s Award for Export Achievement and these new awards confirm PSL’s international strategy as sustainable and successful. Winning a Queen’s Award for Enterprise is a huge achievement for a business – particularly in a special year, as we celebrate H.M. The Queen’s 90th birthday. “The Award is a prestigious honour for a company to receive and demonstrates what an enterprising nation we are. The fact that small businesses can share these honours with large household names illustrates that they are the backbone of our economy and deserve to be recognised as such.” Her Majesty’s Lord-‐Lieutenant, Dame Lorna Muirhead DBE

Her Majesty's Lord-‐Lieutenants are the representatives of the Crown for each county in the United Kingdom. There are 98 Lord-‐Lieutenants, who cover all areas of the UK. Lord-‐Lieutenants in each County are men or women of all backgrounds who are appointed by The Queen on the advice of the Prime Minister. Here in Merseyside the Lord-‐Lieutenant is Dame Lorna Muirhead DBE, appointed Lord-‐Lieutenant of Merseyside in 2006. The Office of High Sheriff is an independent, non-‐political Royal appointment for a single year. The origins of the Office date back to Saxon times, when the 'Shire Reeve' was responsible to the King for the maintenance of law and order within the Shire, or County and for the collection and return of taxes due to the Crown. The current High Sheriff of Merseyside is James Davies OBE whose period of office began in April 2016 and lasts for one year. He became a Deputy Lieutenant in 2010. In terms of protocol, the High Sheriff comes next in precedence after the Lord-‐Lieutenant.
