PEOPLE’S UNITED PARTY 3 Queen Street Belize City, BELIZE Phone No.: 674-9958 e-mail: [email protected] www.pup.org.bz PRESS RELEASE Caucuses: Northern, Southern, Western, Eastern Party Arms: Belize Youth Movement (BYM), United Women’s Group (UWG), Marshalls, Order of Distinguished Service (ODS) April 12, 2012 We the Caucuses and Arms of the People’s United Party (PUP) express our unequivocal support for the Honourable Francis Fonseca, leader of the People’s United Party, in the battle to restore integrity to the democratic and electoral processes through the filing of election petitions. It is our belief that these petitions filed by the PUP are the result of clear infractions in the electoral process by representatives of the United Democratic Party (UDP). Any such infraction is an attack on the people and an attack on our democracy and cannot be tolerated in any instance. In a nonsensical response to the petitions filed by the PUP, the UDP has taken the decision to file their own petition against the Honourable Francis Fonseca in Supreme Court Claim #195 of 2012. The UDP has produced five (5) of their loyal supporters who claim that they were allegedly bribed by Freetown Division operatives to vote for the Hon. Fonseca. Together we wish to state categorically that we consider the allegation unfounded and based on nothing more than political mischief and malice. Furthermore, we are confident that after due consideration, the Court will find it so. We stand in support of the Party Leader as he rises to defend the integrity of his clear victory in the Freetown Division on March 7 th as well as the integrity of those individuals who have come under attack by the UDP for their loyalty to our great Party. ------------------Ends---------------------
