Press Release
Launch of ‘Catch a Wave UK CIC’ social enterprise at Sennen Beach, Cornwall
Catch a Wave UK CIC, is a new watersports and complementary therapies social
enterprise Community Interest Company launching on the 30 May 2010 at Sennen
Surfing Academy, Sennen Beach Cornwall,.
To celebrate the launch, Catch a Wave UK has organised a two-hour free surf
lesson for 20 people, who will be learning to surf at Sennen Surfing Centre.
Additionally, a free yoga lesson has been arranged for the group, on the beautiful
beach of Sennen, with professional local yoga teachers from Catch a Wave UK's
complementary therapy team. The launch begins at 11 a.m. with a 45 minute yoga
lesson, followed by a two-hour surf lesson.
There is already a huge interest in Catch a Wave UK, and both the community and
local businesses are already supporting the work of this innovative social enterprise
that is registered as a Community Interest Company.
Two of the popular local surf schools working with Catch a Wave UK, Gwithian
Academy of Surfing and Sennen Surfing Centre have each donated surf lessons and
free use of equipment for the launch event. (visit www.surfacademy.co.uk and,
www.sennensurfingcentre.com ) In addition, yoga teachers, Lucy Aldridge and
Tracey Wearne are providing complimentary lessons for the launch event.
The launch is being held to raise awareness of this exciting approach that combines
watersports and complementary therapies to improve health and wellbeing. The
Catch a Wave UK company directors; Anne Harrington (founder and Managing
Director) and Kit Sugden (Marketing Director), and other supporters of the business
will be present 7 and indeed going for a surf themselves!
Anne says: “A huge challenge for me when I initially began surfing, was feeling 'Too
old, too unfit, too busy, not cool enough' to surf. I feel there are a lot of people, who
also experience this and although they would LOVE to give watersports a go, may
feel they have to go through so many hurdles before they even get in a wetsuit!
Our aim is to encourage people to use both watersports and complementary
therapies to improve their health and wellbeing, in particular those who would not
normally have access to these areas. We want to give others the chance to
experience catching a wave too, and to discover a whole range of watersports and
complementary therapies in a relaxed, fun and professional environment.“
Catch a Wave UK Carving a way forward for health and wellbeing!
