Press Release 14 December 2016 Following the Harford Community Centre AGM on Wednesday 7 December, at which it was reported that Norwich City Council and ASDA had reached an impasse on completion of the new Community Centre and it was anticipated that the issue would be resolved by arbitration, the new committee agreed to initiate their own campaign to ensure they secured a community facility that reflected the needs of residents of Harford, together with current and potential future users. The focus of the campaign was to remind the ASDA Management Team, at the highest level and across the globe, that their commitment to a community centre was an integral part of the planning permission granted for their store – reminding them “an Englishman’s word is his bond”. The Committee is pleased to announce that within 6 days of launching the campaign ASDA have acknowledged their commitment and agreed to complete the community centre to the required specification. We are pleased with this result and welcome ASDA’s contribution to our community, not only through the provision of the community centre, but as a major employer which has a positive impact on the local economy. We look forward to working with ASDA in the future, on many projects that will be of cultural, social and economic benefit to our community. We would also like to express our thanks to everyone who supported our campaign, notably those who signed our petition and our local media. We wish you all a Merry Christmas and look forward to welcoming you to your new centre during 2017.
