APAM MERLO Inter disciplinary artist Ana Paula Azcarraga Merlo, who prefers to be called Apam Merlo, professionally, is passionate about creating musical content, and performances, enhanced by either visual story telling, or visuals or story telling, highlighting the music. This, she believes to reflect emotions and life experiences either from her own or her surroundings. She believes it is the strongest connection among artists and it’s audiences, followers or spectators. She seeks to create meaningful content and move people or waken the wonder within them. In the unpredictable and ever changing music industry of today, she believes in a bright future for the arts, especially mixed media and overlapping of the arts. It is her deep philosophy that no one thing can sustain itself without the help of another element, and as such, through much struggle, trial and error she came to realize how she could utilize all of her talents towards one common goal. Just as emotions connect artists with their audience, she too believes music is the common thread that could unite all arts. She believes that all other artistic areas of study she has explored have enriched her insights for musical creativity, and given her the ability to provide deeper substance to her content.

ABOUT APAM:

From a young age, Apam has been exposed to the arts. Whether it was music, dance, acting, story telling or art, her family members regularly were involved daily with the arts. Some, privately, however ever present, such as consistent church choir performances. While others have produced their content and activity with more notoriety. Some have become fully sustainable artists, exposing and constantly selling their works of art. Others have published their auto biographies and children’s stories.

It was this swirl of the arts that surrounded her that fostered a love for all of the disciplines from a very young age. From being constantly exposed to story telling, to ballet at age four, painting and singing in church choirs at age 6, to drama at age 8, it was in high school when her passions took on a higher intensity. Heavily involved in drama, and arts clubs, she was involved in acting, directing, designing stage backgrounds and props, and even costumes. Been able to do much, but unable to choose just one discipline, at the young age of 13 she took it upon her self to experiment as much in as many fields of her enjoyment as she could, to find the path that she loved the most. However the indisputable passion of music and singing was seen through musical theater and chapel choirs. Choir competitions and local talent shows. It was in those years she developed her ability the most, and experimenting in a wide range of singing styles.

Heavily influenced by Japanese Anime and Manga (comics) as a child, but mostly by its very particular musical production and orientation, it was through this window that she found a clear goal for her self expression through music, and for the disciplines of art and story telling to walk along side her musical passions. She has been very active in assisting, participation, and learning skills from situations such as: supporting colleague bands in tours, and live performances, colleague recording studios with projects as backing and background vocals, as well as learning from professional recording studio’s environments and colleague academies as a music fundamentals tutor for children. As of now, no available finished content is to be released. She is in the process of structuring, producing and further perfecting her techniques. Always keen to make sure she is expressing her vision in her most faithful way to her own passions.
