F.l.F.A. — LetterDear Sir,

Thank you for your letter of 5 November. It is an established policy of FIFA not to send messages of congratulations to clubs which are not affiliated to FIFA member national associations. Therefore, I cannot send you a message from our President.

May I nevertheless personally congratulate your club and wish you every success in the future.

Sincerely yours,FEDERATION INTERNATIONALE DE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION DR. H. KASER General Secretary

Young Natalians Cricket Club Message

The YOUNG NATALIANS CRICKET CLUB is proud to have associated with its soccer counterparts for the past 45 years. It is an association that has given us tremendous pleasure and we look forward to continuing this most rewarding relationship in the years to come. YOUNG NATALIANS CRICKET CLUB

On behalf of the Young Natalians Netball Team it gives us great pleasure to congratulate the Young Natalians Football Club on achieving its 50 years.

It is good to note that in times of today where evil and corruption seems to be the highlight, you as good sportsmen fight hard to form a healthy society.

We salute the foundation members of such an organisation as well as those who are presently keeping the

Club Colours flying high.

Once again we wish the Young Natalians Football Club every success and happiness on their 50th Anniversary and may we step along the part of comradeship. It is our sincere wish that every endeavour in the future be met with success.

President Maritzburg and

Districts Referee*s Association

On behalf of the Maritzburg and Districts Referee’s Association I wish to congratulate you on your 50th Anniversary.

These days for a club to survive that long and still be amongst the front runners, is really an achievement.

Being associated with M.F.A. but a short while, I have come to admire the officials of Young Natalians for their dedication towards the game of soccer. When there is a job to be done, whether it concerns the Football Association or the Referee’s you can rest assured that they will have a hand in it somewhere along the line.

The manner in which they handle their refereeing duties and their attitude towards the Referee’s Association is surely something that should be copied by many other clubs.

I say let’s have more dedicated people like you joining the Referees and thus building a stronger Referee’s Association.

Keep up the good work, remember winning isn’t everything. Winning at all costs makes a person lose sight of the spirit of the game. A good loser always earns the respect of the crowd. My good wishes for the next 50 years.

Message from Mr Charles M. PillayLife Member: Southern Natal Soccer Board

Life Member: South African Soccer Federation

As an old established, reputable and widely known club currently ranking high as an invaluable affiliate of the Football Association of Maritzburg (formerly M.D.I.F.A) I would like to commend your spirit of energy, dedication and selfreliance to all other clubs and sporting bodies seeking to establish themselves. With this advice and these thoughts and observations, I wish to extend friendly greetings and hearty congratulations on the attainment of your GOLDEN JUBILEE. That your club grows from strength to strength in the years to follow, is my humble prayer.

Expressions of eulogy and encomiums of the sporting fraternity from the Capital and throughout the province will no doubt be pouring in on the YOUNG NATALIANS FOOTBALL CLUB on the occasion of its Golden Jubilee being celebrated this year.

It is also an occasion to record our deep appreciation and sincere thanks to those pioneers and stalwarts who are now no more and have since gone the way of all flesh, all of whom most certainly have laid a firm foundation which has withstood the test of time; and these sentiments of gratitude will also apply to all the officialsand playing members present during the succeeding years for their abiding interest and dedicated services thus making it possible for the club to proudly celebrate its GOLDEN JUBILEE.

By far the most popular pastime and code of sport enjoyed by most of our youth is soccer football, and generally accepted as the best form of outdoor recreation in any country. As a prerequistie, it demands physical fitness, discipline, skill and expert knowledge and of all these vital aspects are complied with adequately, wellwishers, spectators and players alikewill soon be bound to observe in the participants, a feeling of “esprit de corps” and good fellowship, so very necessary in the solidifying of cordial relations amongst all ethic groupings.

For any club or organisation to have weathered the storms and stresses, trials and tribulations for five long decades is a unique achievement in itself. This important milestone in the chequered history of your club is something to be justly proud of especially when we have to take into consideration the many problems and difficulties with which you have had to contend with from time to time.

Message from

Mr C. M. Pillay:

SecretaryMaritzburgFootballAssociation

As secretary of the Maritzburg Football Association of which the Young Natalians Football Club is an affiliate, I take this opportunity of extending to the officials and members of the Young Natalians Football Club my sincere greetings and good wishes on this auspicious occasion their GOLDEN JUBILEE.

In my close contact with your club, I have noted the progress made in the provision of improved amenities for your club through the efforts of your hard-working officials. This milestone represents 50 years of dedicated and true sportsmanship. I hope in the next half- a-century your club will continue to produce the sincere administrators as in the past. Your record with the Association speaks for itself. The continued existence of the Young Natalians Football Club with its distinct Blue and White colours is a tribute to all the stalwarts of yester-year.

Congratulations, on your achievement and may you meet with success in all your endeavours, and may this well disciplined and reputed club go from strength to strength.

Mr C. M. Pillay

A President who served with distinctionMr R. K. ‘‘Kitty Boyd’’ Naidoo

Probably the most colourful personality in the 50 year history of Young Natalians was Mr R. K. “ Kitty Boyd” Naidoo.

He served the club with great distinction for half its lifetime. It is a pity that he did not live long enough to be part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the club.

The club had the privilege of interviewing Mr Naidoo a few months before he died. The most remarkable aspect of the interview was the vividness of his memory on the long history of the club. Even though he was in his sick bed, he was able to recall with absolute clarity the history of the club and its achievements.

Mr Naidoo was one of a group of young men who founded Young Natalians. He became its first president and held the position fora record-breaking 26 years.

Although not a player, he excelled as head. During his period in the chair, Young Natalians saw many great honours which remain unsurpassed and are unlikely to be surpassed in the future.

Mr Naidoo became president of the club when it was still in the junior ranks in 1929. However, because of the “ lack of competition”, the club joined the senior ranks and the drubbing they received in the first year was something of a nightmare.

It was with great pride that Mr Naidoo spoke of Young Natalian s achievement in 1948. That year they made a clean sweep of all the competitions — going through the season undefeated.

As head of affairs he took a very keen interest in the activities of the club. It was through stalwarts like him and others that made Young Natalians is a household name in the province.

On this, the Golden Jubilee year, Young Natalians pays tribute to a great stalwart. His memory will live on for years to come.
