The four audit managers attending shared important and useful information. The topics included Audit Committee & Stakeholder Relations, Enterprise Risk Management, Ethics and COSO. The afternoon attendees heard speakers talking on Business Process Documentation, IT Control Environments, Time Management and COSO. All the speakers engaged the audience and handled many good questions. We also used a new venue for the meeting and enjoyed good food and a comfortable room at the Hotel at Kirkwood. We are excited to add 29 new members from the Quad Cities Chapter. We look forward to serving the new members and giving them the opportunity to serve. Upcoming IIA ConferencesCAE Corner - SmartBriefQualification in Internal Audit Leadership (QIAL)The QIAL is a new, highly distinguished qualification for aspiring leaders, experienced chief audit executives (CAEs), and those CAEs who are new to the internal audit function for their organization. The QIAL focuses on leadership capabilities as applied to CAEs in the key areas of: heading the audit function, influencing strategy and organizational performance, providing opinion and insight, advocating innovation and change, and championing ethics and social responsibility. This new program is unlike any other currently offered by The IIA and will be conducted through a series of case study exams, a presentation, and a panel interview. The content outline covers those topics that are relevant to internal auditors at the highest level, and the knowledge and skills tested are directly linked to the most recently released Competency Framework. This new designation will be launched at The IIA’s 2014 International Conference on July 8, so more details on eligibility and enrollment will be available. While the 1992 COSO Framework (1992 Framework) is still in effect, COSO has indicated that the 2013 Framework will supersede the 1992 Framework, effective December 15, 2014. The SEC has stated that the longer an entity continues to use the 1992 Framework beyond the transition date, the more likely they are to receive questions from the Staff about such use. As a result, many public entities have begun to evaluate the impact of the 2013 Framework on their assessment of their system of internal control. Furthermore, during the transition period, while COSO has indicated that use of the 1992 Framework is appropriate, COSO and the SEC Staff have indicated that management should disclose in their annual assessment which version of the framework is used.

District Updates from Seth PetersonTest Development Team – The Ak-Sar-Ben chapter has had success in forming a Test Development Team (TDT) and submitting questions for CIA and CRMA certifications. Anyone interested will need to sign a non-disclosure agreement, and be trained through online webcasts. Authors must be current in the profession and hold the related IIA designation for the item topics they are submitting (CIA or CRMA). Chapters of Excellence - At the 2014 Leadership Academy, The IIA and its chapters celebrated a record-breaking year for the Chapter of Excellence program. This year, 83 chapters were recognized as 2014 Chapters of Excellence for advancing the profession by supporting the CIA credential through The IIA’s CIA Learning System® program. More than 225 chapter leaders attended a reception on April 27 to honor our chapters’ commitment to their members’ CIA exam preparation and success. Congratulations to Ak-Sar-Ben, Central Iowa, and the Sioux Falls Chapters!
