VP Technical Report By John Fischer Jr.

Sizing and using Automatic Control Valves, a very misunderstood and improperly designed Plumbing Appurtenance. I think you will enjoy and learn from our presenter, Jim M. Nau, Business Development Manager for the ACV Division of Watts Water Technologies. The title of his presentation will be “Understanding ACV's, Theory, Design Considerations.

Last month our presenter was Jim Walls of the Cast Iron Soil Pipe Institute. His presentation on the ASTM and CISPI Specifications and Installation Requirements for Cast Iron Soil Pipe alerted you to the dangers of taking Cast Iron Soil pipe for granted. If manufacturers do not follow standards in the production, and provide for proper testing of the finished product we as engineers take the risk of accepting material lacking these credentials and find the useful life of the our project could be jeopardized. Jim has years ‘of experience with engineered products specifically various valves and actuation in diversified industries, including but not limited to; Plumbing, Water/wastewater and Industrial facilities. Included in his experience is training, and field support (startup andtroubleshooting. I am sure this presentation will be most valuable.

Suggestions for meeting presentations next fall would be very much appreciated..

Continuing education certificates will be available for this meeting and several certificates remain for other months that were not previously retrieved.

See you at the April meeting.

VPLegislativeReport,

Nicholas Hipp

St. Louis County Plumbing Code Review The St. Louis County Plumbing Code Review Committee is still finishing up chapter 10 of the UPC and County Ordinances Traps and Interceptors. There was also a discussion on allowing licensed experienced apprentice plumbers to be able to replace water heaters and boilers when in the employ of a bonded master plumber. It was discussed at length a proposed change that mechanical contractors with an HVAC Residential Servicer-Installer Journeyman license can obtain a Journeyman Water Heater Replacement Specialist License which allows mechanical contractors to replace water heaters. So far this has been an interesting and much debated topic. The next meeting should be the start of chapter 11 if all goes well. The next St. Louis County Plumbing Code Review Committee meeting is March 23rd, in the 6th Floor Training Room, 41 S. Central Ave., St. Louis, MO 63105. The 6th Floor Training Room is located in thesouthwest corner of the building immediately adjacent to both the elevator lobby and therestrooms.
