PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Common Ground January 19 was Martin Luther King Day, the federal holiday that celebrates his birth, life and achievements. February is Black History Month, the annual recognition of the central role of African Americans in U.S. history. A miniscule sampling: of course, Marin Luther King Jr, Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, Frederick Douglass, George Washington Carver, Booker T. Washington, Mary McLeod Bethune, Jackie Robinson, Sammy Davis, Jr., Don King, The Rock, Thomas Sowell, Condoleezza Rice - luminaries in religion, education, economics, entertainment, science, sports. And Republicans all, because the Republican Party championed civil rights for over a hundred years, from Abraham Lincoln to the 1964 Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act of 1965. Since then, the GOP has allowed itself to be labeled the party of the white and the rich by allowing the left to successfully pervert history instruction in our schools and by submitting to its relentless spewing of its rewritten make-believe history of the civil rights movement and its slandering of Republican values. (See: www.nationalblackrepublicans.com/FrequentlyAskedQuestions) As a result, although people of all stripes are conservative, it is a reality that as groups, those who put African, Asian, or Latino in front of American overwhelmingly vote for Democrats. The RCWV, therefore, should commit to share GOP history and common goals with these. groups. The club needs to increase its visibility by participating in community events, at which we offer information and invitations to our meetings, as we did at the recent DeLand Dog Parade and MLK Dinner in Daytona Beach (see page 3). As individuals, we can do the same with those we encounter in our daily dealings. We politely get our message out and patiently listen to those who disagree with us. We learn more about them and they about us. Perceptions based on appearance and reputation may begin to melt away. It is impossible we can, nor should we need to, agree on everything, but there are issues where we can find common ground: whether there are jobs to enable us to live comfortably; the availability of a good education for our children and whether they have an economic future; what quality of healthcare we can afford; working hard in school; keeping families intact; taking individual responsibility for actions; assisting those who are disabled or temporarily strapped; whether or not Americans get blown up on their way to work. These aren’t goals and values based on skin color, and we need to show with facts how these goals and values have been impeded by progressive policies and can be reversed by new ideas. Ideas and movements, be they good (civil rights) or bad (Progressivism) take decades to reach fruition. With patience, perseverance, and positivity, we can change opinions by sowing the seeds of conservatism while remembering that “some will fall on stony places, where they do not have much earth… And some will fall among thorns and be choked... But others will fall on good ground and yield a crop: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.” Paul Deering, President "We may have all come on different ships, but we're in the same boat now." THE REC HONORS MLK The RECVC was proud to be a sponsor at the Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration Dinner, January 15, at the Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront, helping to raise funds for scholarships. Many of our members joined us at our eight sponsored tables, including one for our Volusia Teenage

Republicans members. Contributions from the RPOF and individual donors allowed us to invite some new friends and students from the African American community to join us. County Council

Chairman Jason Davis presented a Declaration from the Volusia County Council honoring Dr. King. Latanya Peterson, Florida Director for African American Outreach for the RNC is working

with Daisy Grimes, Sponsor, to form a College Republican Club at Bethune Cookman University. It should be up and running soon. This is something we are very excited about and we thank and appreciate Mrs. Grimes for her enthusiasm and willingness to be responsible for this group of young

students. Many people in our African American community are conservatives. As conservative Republicans, we must share our story and make it an individual priority to invite those we meet to

our meetings and events so they can learn more about us. We need them and all Americans to support the conservative principles of the Republican Party that we believe will lead to the best life

possible for all. (Photos Courtesy RECVC)

WE THE ENEMY

n

HOMOPHOBIC, RACIST, GUN TOTING, SLASH AND BURN RELIGIOUS FANATICS WAGING A WAR ON WOMEN. THE TALIBAN? NOPE, YOU.

What the Obama administration and many Democrats share with the collective authors of the liberal storyline – the main stream media - is a deep and abiding suspicion that the American people are bigots. On the 2008 campaign trail, then candidate Obama, referring to working-class voters in old industrial towns decimated by job losses, said "They get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations." And arsonists. During the fight over raising the nation’s debt limit in 2011, Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) said: “the Tea Partiers and the GOP have made their slash and burn lunacy clear, and while I do not love this compromise, my vote is a hose to stop the burning. The arsonists must be stopped. During the 2014 Continuing Resolution debate, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) called Tea Party allies “legislative arsonists.” And even worse terrorists, this coming from people that can’t choke out the words Islamic terrorists. During the same CR debate, Rep. Mike Doyle (D-PA) commented, “We have negotiated with terrorists. This small group of terrorists have made it impossible to spend any money.” Vice President Biden accused Tea Party Republicans of having “acted like terrorists,” and the President’s spokesman, Dan Pfeiffer, said the White House is “not negotiating with people with a bomb strapped to their chest.” These same people think the Cold War is ancient history, despite Putin’s aggression, and the War on Poverty has been a smashing success, despite a continual underclass and struggling middle class. But there are wars that the administration continue to wage - a war on the English language and a war on the American people. SURPRISE, YOU ARE PROBABLY AN ENEMY OF THE STATE Excerpted From Zero Hedge Fund http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-01-13/obama-declares-war-

extremism-%E2%80%93-are-you-extremist Obama Declares War On "Extremism" – Are You An "Extremist"? Tyler Durden on 01/14/2015 (Submitted by Michael Snyder via The Economic Collapse blog)

“Do you know what an extremist is? As you will see below, your definition of an extremist may be far, far different from the definition that Barack Obama is using…According to Wikipedia, “extremism” is “an ideology (particularly in politics or religion), considered to be far outside the mainstream attitudes of a society or to violate common moral standards. Extremism can take many forms, including political, religious and economic” (notice no mention of violence)… In this day and age, you can be considered an extremist simply based on what you believe, and as you will see in this article there are now tens of millions of Americans that are considered to be “extremists” and “potential terrorists” according to official U.S. government documents. When you use the word extremist, you may have in your mind a picture of ISIS fighters or the terrorists from the Charlie Hebdo massacre. But for elitists such as Barack Obama, the word extremist has a much broader meaning. In recent years, it has become a code word for those that do not have an “enlightened” view of the world. If your views on politics, religion or social issues are extremely

“Does the government fear us? Or do we fear the government? When the people fear the government, tyranny has found victory. The federal government is our servant, not our master! Tyranny is defined as that which is legal for the government but illegal for the citizenry." “When once a republic is corrupted, there is no possibility of remedying any of the growing evils but by removing the corruption and restoring its lost principles; every other correction is either useless or a new evil." Both Quotes Attributed to Thomas Jefferson

different from the liberal, progressive views of “the mainstream” (as defined by the mainstream media and by “mainstream” politicians such as Barack Obama), then they consider you to be an extremist. I want to share with you a list that I have shared in a couple of previous articles. It is a list of types of Americans that are considered to be “extremists” or “potential terrorists” in official U.S. government documents. (To see the original source document for each of these, go to the Zero Hedge webpage)… As you can see, this list potentially includes most of the country… 1. Those that talk about “individual liberties” 2. Those that advocate for states’ rights 3. Those that want “to make the world a better place” 4. “The colonists who sought to free themselves from British rule” 5. Those that are interested in “defeating the Communists” 6. Those that believe “that the interests of one’s own nation are separate from the interests of other nations or the common interest of all nations” 7. Anyone that holds a “political ideology that considers the state to be unnecessary, harmful, or undesirable” 8. Anyone that possesses an “intolerance toward other religions” 9. Those that “take action to fight against the exploitation of the environment and/or animals” 10. “Anti-Gay” 11. “Anti-Immigrant” 12. “Anti-Muslim” 13. “The Patriot Movement” 14. “Opposition to equal rights for gays and lesbians” 15. Members of the Family Research Council 16. Members of the American Family Association 17. Members of the American Border Patrol/American Patrol 19. Members of the Federation for American Immigration Reform 20. Members of the Tennessee Freedom Coalition 21. Anyone that “attends rallies for extremist causes” 36. Anyone that “exhibits extreme religious intolerance” 37. Anyone that “is personally connected with a grievance” 38. Those that are opposed “to the collection of federal income taxes” 69. Those that supported former presidential candidates Ron Paul, Chuck Baldwin and Bob Barr 70. Those that display the Gadsden Flag (“Don’t Tread On Me”) 71. Those that believe in “end times” prophecies 72. Evangelical Christians” ENTHUSIASM FOR COERCION AND THE SUBSTITUTION OF ENEMIES FOR IDEAS

The Founders entrusted limited, enumerated powers to government. The Progressives, who believed that a government of the educated elite, not the individual, knew what was in the best interest, created the administrative state as an assault on these restrictions. For government to do the collective good, it had to be centralized at the national level, expanded dramatically, and involved in regulating most (if not all) of the economic and social decisions made by citizens. Their legacy is a tangle of behemoth agencies with the power to make laws, to investigate, prosecute, and enforce laws, and in many cases to judge violations of the laws. (The crown jewel is Obamacare). These unelected bureaucrats with immense concentrated powers operate under the radar, largely shielded from the control of the people. That is why some nameless people in some obscure office in some agency can codify who is outside the norm. It should come as no surprise, then, that those individuals and organizations that push back against this leviathan, that attempt to restore the government to some semblance of the one the Founders envisioned and to return to the values they cherished, are deemed by their government as dangerous “extremists” that need to be watched carefully.
