Gloria Winkley has worked hard to make sure it's a great evening, so mark your calendar and make a reser- vation. If you aren't going to the parade, be sure to watch for us on TV. We are Unit 43, following the Kiwanis float and the Bannelos Charro Team (8 horse riders). We will also be running our animation at post-parade (see Dustin Crumb's article). We have a unique, first and cool situation with this float. For the first time we have three generations oper- ating the float from the inside. By the time you receive this, we will be "under the bridge" and decorating "The Great Howldini." I hope all of you who are able have signed up to help us in some way during decorating week, from Dec. 26 through Jan. 1 (the parade is on Jan. 2 this year because the first is on a Sunday and Pasadena has a "never on Sunday" rule). This is also the time of think about your membership renewal if it's due or to get some friends to be first-time joiners. If you want to come down and cheer on Howldini when the judges arrive, we are being judged on Dec. 31 at 2:28 p.m. and again on Jan. 1 at 2:28 p.m. On the first, we will take the float out on Hampton Road to run the animation and everything else people will see for the parade so the judges can do what they do - judge. C'mon down and cheer on the construction team - they have put thousands of volunteer hours into making this float a reality and it's absolutely wonderful. Kudos to Dustin Crumb, Dwight Crumb, Don Crumb, Jim Geoghegan, Bob Neilson, Carol Imbriale and grandson Buddy, Sharlyn French, Jim Misamore, Jimmy Harrington, John Privett, Janis Peterson, Randy Bartos, Denise Ballard, Jacob Maitless, Tim Rahtz and son Adam, Clara Satter- field, Pat Foltyn and Jim Neilson. If I missed any of the regulars, forgive me - I'm having a senior moment. Every- one needs to know that these are the core folks who are down at the construction site every spare minute they have - including during the week and on Sundays. If it were not for their dedication, we would not have a float. One of them, Jim Geoghegan has three jobs - chef at lunchtime and he handles our Floatique items. Triple thanks to Jim. When you see these folks, give them a pat on the back and a great big THANK YOU!!!

Deco StuffDeco StuffFlowers are ordered, dry stuff is coming in from vari-ous locations, and all the bits and pieces that make upgetting ready for Deco Week are in place (I think.)This year’s float will be floral and colorful. Clara Sat-terfield and her crew in flower receiving are going tobe extremely busy. Folks, we are talking 10,000 redcarnations and 8,000 red roses just for starters. Adduntold numbers of yellow, white, bronze and lavendermums, other roses, delphinium, stock, Bells of Ire-land, orchids, greenery and what ever else I have for-gotten at the moment (like Glads) and you get thepicture.See you all ‘Under the Bridge’, and don’t forget todress warm!

DevelopmentDevelopmentEarly on the morning of December 11th the float went through the last of the required Tournament of Roses inspec-tions. The float performed well thanks to all of the work that Jim Geoghegan’s crew has put in over the past sixmonths. It will soon be time to start decorating the float and we are counting on your support both as decorators andspectators as the float is completed and drives down the parade route on January 2nd. Feel free to come out and visit usunder the bridge during deco week or as we show off the float to the judges on January 1st. We have also received aninvitation from the Tournament of Roses to animate at Post Parade on the 2nd and 3rd, but if you miss the float at anyof these events, assume the weather cooperates we will put the float on display at Memorial Park on Saturday January6th for one last showing before the float is dismantled to prepare for the 2007 parade. I know we are all working onfinishing our 2006 float, but it is time to start thinking about the 2007 parade. Below is the hint given by Paul Holmanthe 2007 Pasadena Tournament of Roses President:

‘It is difficult to give a better clue than the one I provided at the Float Builders Dinner, but let me try to simplify it: Our theme incorporates the requirement that our floats be completely covered with natural materials and celebrates thegood-natured enthusiasm of Tournament of Roses volunteers. I really can't give a better "hint" without just stating thetheme.’-Paul

If you have any ideas on what you think we should build for the2007 float, please submit your ideas to the concept contest, and youcould be receiving two free tickets to the 2007 parade.
