ABOUT TAPE
In this contemporary baroque playground of dance and music from choreographer Kenneth Kvarnstrm, dancer-applied duct tape sets the terms for a range of abstract movements as a lone multi-instrumentalist accompanies on lute, theorbo, and guitar.
Taking the occasional time-out to lecture on baking, the fugue form, and other topics, the dancersmarrying lyrical grace with street-style body isolationuse modern gesture to elucidate their asides while expressing freedom within constraint. Works by Bach, Couperin, Poulenc, and others are featured alongside costumes by Swedish fashion designer Astrid Olsson in this playful counterpoint of old and new, told and shown, bound and free.

His choreographic work has been performed throughout Europe, as well as in Africa, Asia, Latin America, North America, and Australia. He returned to choreographing for his own company in 2008. That year, he was appointed professor of the arts (dance) in Finland. In 2014, he became the artistic director of dance at Kulturhuset City Theatre in Stockholm. There, he creates work for his own company and invites local companies to perform.
