Workshop DescriptionsBullying: Say the word “bully” to almost anyone and they will have a story to share. If bully-ing is, as some people claim, a part of growing up, why do our memories of bullying remain so vivid and yucky? The good news is we as educators can do something about it. Partici-pants will be able to construct a working definition of bullying as well as identify methods to effectively and calmly prevent and respond to bullying.

Understanding Temper Tantrums: This training focuses on the unique world of infants and toddlers and the challenges of responding to tantrums. We will discuss behaviors associ-ated with tantrums, how we feel about tantrums, types of tantrums, factors that influence them, and effective responses to tantruming that support the child.

Using Proactive Classroom Management: If you had the choice to stop a child’s challeng-ing behavior while it’s occurring or to prevent it from happening all together which would you choose? Preventing challenging behaviors is what most early childhood professionals are looking to do in their setting but sometimes we can’t pinpoint just how to prevent be-haviors. In this session we’ll learn what it means to use proactive classroom management. We’ll discuss the importance of using proactive classroom management techniques and how these can reduce challenging behaviors. The session will cover how to plan your phys-ical environment, daily schedule, and transitions as well as how to teach crucial social and emotional skills. Help your group know your expectations and classroom routine and you’ll spend more time teaching and less time working through difficult behaviors.

Child Abuse, Maltreatment & Neglect Including Shaken Baby Syndrome: This training will cover the topic of recognizing and reporting child abuse, maltreatment and neglect, includ-ing Shaken Baby Syndrome. 5 6 98OCFS Topic Areas:
