8:15 - 9:15am How to navigate change within a fast-paced organization in a high speed world?

What does the “human” in Human Resources really mean? Building a sense of common purpose and shared vulnerability sound naturally human, right? Yet it is often daunting to create them in the midst of pressures and stresses of change. How can we help ourselves and our organizations build resilient systems that move beyond states of breakdown to breakthrough? No matter the industry or sector, organizations face challenges of constant transformation, disruption from all angles, and different expectations from four different generations in the workforce, to name a few. Even though our organizations have learned how to work leaner, cut costs and use digital technologies to survive, we still crave clarity about the role of leadership and the potential workplace experiences we can offer, so our people thrive in the complex environment of constant change. As HR leaders, how do we role-model, influence and build processes that integrate mindfulness, enable high-performing teams, and instill a growth mindset in the company’s culture? Join Dorie Blesoff, Chief People Officer at Relativity, to discuss why building workplace community matters more than ever and how we can strengthen our capability to do so in a sustainable way.

Three Key Takeaways/Objectives

1:45 - 2:45pm Harnessing the Power of Workplace Conflict: Strategies for Interacting Productively

Workplace conflict is inevitable. It’s also nerve-wracking, intense, and stressful. The good news: conflict can be powerfully productive when we know the right strategies for interacting during trying times. Rather than focus on a step-by-step process for conflict resolution, as many workshops, seminars and books do, this session acquaints participants with how to leverage the power of conflict and make conflict interactions more productive. Participants are introduced to the four behavioral styles found in the workplace (a la Everything DiSC) and how each style acts and reacts in conflict situations. They are encouraged to consider that not all conflicts need resolution; rather, if one learns some basic strategies for each style in managing disagreements, conflict can be positive and productive. The end result: disagreements and conflicts lead to powerful results, including “better” solutions, more innovative approaches, and more trusting bonds between colleagues.

Three Key Takeaways/Objectives

• How to guesstimate a team member’s DiSC style, understand that style’s preferences or priorities during a conflict situation, and learn the implications of that for workplace interaction;

• How to understand each of the styles in conflict, specifically with regard to the goals of each style in conflict, the fears of each style (in general), and what each style tends to overuse (behaviorally speaking) in a conflict situation; and

• How to have productive conflict with each of the four styles, providing four specific strategies for each that participants can begin applying right away.

3:00 - 4:00pm Time 2.0 - Applying Design Thinking to Time and “Chronoception"

Session Description Move from time management to time mastery. We know about the time value of money, but do we truly understand the investment value of our time? In this unique mind-bending talk, John shares breakthrough ideas on how to re-think your relationship with time. He demonstrates that our brains process time in a non-linear manner, and hence, the value of an increment of time is unrelated to its duration. Using both story-telling and data, John explores how to slow, stop and reverse the perceived acceleration of time, and live summers longer than when you were a kid.

Three Key Takeaways/Objectives

• Learn the three laws of chronoception • Reframe your relationship with time • Learn techniques to create time-expanding moments

John Coyle , CEO and Founder - Speaking Design Thinking

John K. Coyle, #TheTimeGuy, is a world leading expert in innovation and Design Thinking, and author of Design For Strengths: Applying Design Thinking to Individual and Team Strengths (2018) and The Art of Really Living Manifesto (2016).
