Jeff Tyzik CONDUCTOR/CHEF D’ORCHESTRE

GRAMMY® Award-winner Jeff Tyzik is

one of America’s most innovative and

sought-after pops conductors. He is

recognized for his brilliant arrangements,

original programming and engaging

rapport with audiences of all ages. Tyzik

holds The Dot and Paul Mason Principal

Pops Conductor’s Podium at the Dallas

Symphony Orchestra and also serves as

Principal Pops Conductor of the Seattle

Symphony, the Detroit Symphony, the

Oregon Symphony, The Florida Orchestra

and the Rochester Philharmonic

Orchestra (RPO).

Frequently invited as a guest conductor,

Tyzik has appeared with the Boston

Pops, Toronto Symphony, Los Angeles

Philharmonic and the Royal Scottish

National Orchestra. He made his debut with

the NAC Orchestra in 2007. Also in 2007,

the Harmonia Mundi label released his

recording of works by Gershwin with pianist

Jon Nakamatsu and the RPO which stayed

in the Top 10 on the Billboard classical chart

for over three months.

Committed to performing music of all

genres, Jeff Tyzik has created numerous

original programs that include the greatest

music from jazz and classical to Motown,

Broadway, film, dance, Latin and swing.

Tyzik holds Bachelor of Music and Master

of Music degrees from the Eastman School

of Music.

Byron Stripling TRUMPET AND VOCALS/TROMPETTE ET CHANT

With a contagious smile and captivating

charm, trumpet virtuoso Bryon Stripling

has ignited audiences internationally. As

soloist with the Boston Pops Orchestra,

Stripling has performed frequently under

the baton of Keith Lockhart. Currently,

Stripling serves as artistic director

and conductor of the highly acclaimed

Columbus Jazz Orchestra.

Since his Carnegie Hall debut with

Skitch Henderson and the New York Pops,

Stripling has become a pops orchestra

favourite throughout the country, soloing

with Boston Pops, Baltimore Symphony

and Toronto Symphony, to name a few.

An accomplished actor and singer,

many will remember Stripling’s critically

acclaimed virtuoso trumpet and riotous

comedic performance in the 42nd Street

production of From Second Avenue to

Broadway. Television viewers have enjoyed

his work as soloist on The Grammy Awards.

Stripling earned his stripes as lead

trumpeter and soloist with the Count Basie

Orchestra under the direction of Thad

Jones and Frank Foster. He was educated

at the Eastman School of Music and the

Interlochen Arts Academy. One of his

greatest joys is to return, periodically, to

Eastman and Interlochen as a special guest

lecturer.

A resident of Ohio, he lives in the country

with his wife Alexis and their beautiful

daughters.

Carmen Bradford VOCALS/VOIX

Born in Austin, Texas and raised in

Altadena, California, Carmen Bradford

grew up with music in her home and heart.

Following the footsteps of her great family

musical legacy, she has carved out a place

in music history for herself and plays an

integral role in the jazz world.

Bradford was discovered and hired

by William Count Basie and was the

featured vocalist in the legendary Count

Basie Orchestra for nine years. She has

since performed and/or recorded with

such talents as Wynton Marsalis, Doc

Severinsen, Byron Stripling, Lena Horne

and Frank Sinatra, as well as the DIVA

Jazz Orchestra, the National Symphony

and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra,

among others. Bradford performed on two

GRAMMY® Award-winning albums with the

Count Basie Orchestra in the 1980s.

Bradford began another chapter in

her illustrious career as a solo artist with

the critically acclaimed debut album

Finally Yours and With Respect (Evidence

Records), which established her as one

of jazz music’s most diverse and exciting

vocal talents. Her next release, Home With

You, (Azica Records) is a collection of

piano/vocal duets with Shelly Berg.

Currently, Bradford makes guest

appearances with the Count Basie

Orchestra.

Ted Louis Levy TAP DANCE AND VOCALS/DANSE À CLAQUETTES ET VOIX

On the stage, Ted Louis Levy made his

Broadway debut in the smash hit Black and

Blue, and returned to Broadway as Papa

Jack in Susan Stroman and Harry Conick,

Jr.’s Thou Shalt Not. For his performance

as the Mikado in Ford’s Theatre’s

production of The Hot Mikado, Levy won a

Helen Hayes Award.

Levy’s professional training began in

Chicago with Finis Henderson II, master

tap dancer and former manager of Sammy

Davis, Jr. The 1992 production Ted Levy

and Friends, directed by Gregory Hines,

celebrated Levy as one of America’s

premier tap dance artists. Influenced by

Hines, Levy then made his debut as director

of Savion Glover’s Dancing Under the Stars

at the New York Shakespeare Festival’s

Delacorte Theater.

As a choreographer, Levy collaborated

with George C. Wolfe and Gregory Hines

on the choreography of Jelly’s Last Jam,

for which he received a Tony nomination, a

Drama Desk nomination and the 1993 Outer

Critics Circle Award. He was awarded an

Emmy for his television debut performance

in the PBS special Precious Memories, and

appeared in Spike Lee’s Malcolm X for his

film debut.

Robert Breithaupt DRUM SET/BATTERIE

Robert Breithaupt is a veteran of over

40 years in music, as a performer,

educator, arts administrator, author,

musical contractor and entrepreneur. He

is Professor of Music at Capital University,

Past-President of the Percussive Arts

Society, and on the board of the Jazz

Education Network. Breithaupt has

performed and recorded in diverse solo,

small ensemble and orchestral settings

and has appeared with a virtual “Who’s

Who” of great jazz talents and scores

of other noted artists. As drummer/

percussionist for trumpet virtuoso Byron

Stripling, Broadway star Sandy Duncan,

and other artists, he has performed with

dozens of professional orchestras and

ensembles throughout the United States

and abroad, and is the drummer for

the Columbus Jazz Orchestra.

Breithaupt is considered one of the

foremost authorities on the history and

development of the drum set. He is the

author of The Complete Percussionist

(Barnhouse), one of the standard textbooks

in percussion education.

Breithaupt is currently a member of

the board and executive committee of

Experience Columbus, where he represents

the viewpoint of the arts community in

dialogue surrounding the role of arts and

culture in economic development and

civic value.

Robert Breithaupt fait carrière depuis

Manon St-Jules HOST/ANIMATRICE

Since graduating from the National

Theatre School of Canada, Manon St-Jules

has been leading a bilingual career,

performing in classical and contemporary

plays for big and small companies

in Toronto (Canadian Stage, Festival

of Classics, Theatre Direct, Pleiades

Theatre), in Montreal (Théâtre Denise

Pelletier, Centaur Theatre, Compagnie

à Numéro) and in Sudbury (Sudbury

Theatre Centre, le Théâtre du Nouvel-

Ontario). In Ottawa, she has performed

for the NAC, the Great Canadian Theatre

Company, Arts Court Theatre and

Théâtre la Catapulte, and she regularly

hosts concerts with the NAC Orchestra.

Her work on-camera includes dramatic

as well as comedic parts in film,

television and commercials, as well as

various multimedia projects. Selected

Tobi Hunt McCoySEASON STAGE MANAGER/RÉGISSEUSE DE LA SAISON

Tobi Hunt McCoy is enjoying another year

as Season Stage Manager with the National

Arts Centre Orchestra. In past seasons,

Ms. McCoy stage managed the Lord of

the Rings Symphony, Mendelssohn’s

A Midsummer Night’s Dream with

Christopher Plummer in 2001 and

Colm Feore in 2014, and much of the

Orchestra’s educational and Pops pro-

gramming. Last season, she co-produced

the Pops show On the Air with Jack Everly

for the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, a

show they also produced in 2007 for the

NAC Orchestra.

Additional professional duties have

included bracing the backstage doors

against the almighty power of Richard

Strauss, Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the

air conditioning system at Montreal’s La

Maison Symphonique, guest conducting

the NAC Orchestra in rehearsal for the

Black & White Opera Soiree, providing air-

guitar support during the Led Zeppelin

tribute concert, shepherding numerous

choruses to and from the rehearsal hall,

utilising her creative Vancouver French with

the combined choral and orchestral forces

in Mahler’s Eighth Symphony, and duck

wrangling for the Mysterioso Pops concert.

She is excited to be back teaching

English and Drama at Lisgar Collegiate.

Tobi Hunt McCoy poursuit sa collaboration

climatisation; dirigé l’Orchestre du CNA

durant une répétition de la Soirée d’opéra

Noir et Blanc; joué de la guitare imaginaire

dans un concert hommage à Led Zeppelin;

accompagné de nombreux chœurs dans

leurs allées et venues à l’arrière-scène;

exercé avec créativité son français de

Vancouvéroise avec l’ensemble combiné

chœur et orchestre dans la Huitième

symphonie de Mahler; et fait la guerre à

un canard dans le cadre du concert Pops

Mysterioso.

Cette année encore, elle prend plaisir

à enseigner l’anglais et l’art dramatique au
