The Upper Valdarno

The upper valley where river Arno flows is a wide area between Florence in the north and Arezzo in the south. Flat near the river and hilly on the eastern side the region is really interesting from a naturalistic point of view;its hills are covered with vineyards and olive groves while in its woods we can find oaks, chestnuts and beeches. The municipal districts of this area are: Figline Valdarno, Rignano sull'Arno, Incisa Valdarno, Reggello, Pian di Scò, Castelfranco di Sopra, San Giovanni Valdarno, Terranuova Bracciolini, Montevarchi.

Wine Wine has been produced in the Upper Valdarno Valley since the XIV century. The best wines were Trebbiani along with the wine from Montecarlo in Valdarno , the wine from Pian di Scò and the wines from the hills around Montevarchi. This wine has a ruby red colour and it is good for ageing. It has a rich intense aroma with fruity notes. Its flavour is ripe, dry , smooth and velvety. It matches very well with the typical dishes of the Upper Valdarno valley
