Gender Roles in Disney Princess
Movies By: Sarah Lintner
Disney Princesses are everywhere
Finding “True Love” and Prince Charming
Snow White
Snow White takes on the stereotypical gender role of cooking and cleaning for the men and looking beautiful and angelic while doing it
Aurora aka “Sleeping Beauty”
Even when she’s asleep her beauty is the only thing that matters.
Jasmine from Aladdin
Jasmine stirred up a lot of controversy for being from the middle east, but she still had the stereotypical perfect body and look that all the princesses had.
Jasmine had a very “sexy” and mysterious look to her that many people fell in love with. She was very exotic looking because of course every princess had to be especially since she wasn’t the stereotypical Caucasian girl.
Ariel “The LITTLE Mermaid”
Even though Ariel didn’t have a voice, he still fell madly in love with her because of her beauty. She sacrificed her voice to have feet and meet her prince charming on land
Belle from Beauty and The Beast
Belle’s name wasn’t even important enough to add into the movie title, all that mattered were the physical appearances.
Cinderella
She looks so happy to be cleaning the floor, and she’s seen signing in the movie when she cleaning and sewing. The typical duties of women.
“I love you because you’re pretty now”- Prince Charming
Now onto to the men….
These Halloween costumes were made into more revealing forms of the originals
