What does Lego make?
Little plastic bricks, right?
How Lego became a social network
• In 1998 Lego released Mindstorms Robotics Targeted at 8-13 year olds
Our proprietary code is loose on the Internet! We must stop them!!!
But limiting creativity is against everything Lego stands for!!!
The lesson:
• Lego found smart people outside their organization who would do their work for free
• Lego encouraged and incentivized the best of those people, bringing them inside
Fine…that’s Legos.
So what?
Prosper.com
A notable failure
•Wal-Mart’s cool site for cool kids!
•Shut down after just 10 weeks
•Kids could come, upload photos of and talk about Wal-Mart Products!
•None did
