RESSOURCESHOW TO DO VIZTHINKING: PRACTICAL TIPS, TUTORIALS AND HOW-TO BOOKS

Storytelling (general and visual storytelling) • http://www.sparkol.com/blog/8-classic-storytelling-techniques-for-engaging-presentations/: 8 Classic Storytelling Techniques for engaging presentations • http://www.ted.com/talks/simon_sinek_how_great_leaders_inspire_action#t-453233: Simon Sinek has a simple but powerful model for inspirational leadership all

starting with a golden circle and the question "Why?" His examples include Apple, Martin Luther King, and the Wright brothers ... (Filmed at TEDxPugetSound.) • http://www.sparkol.com/blog/a-pros-4-steps-to-make-powerful-visual-metaphors/; A pro’s 4 steps to make powerful visual metaphors

Examples of applying visual thinking in business and change-making

• http://visualizing.org/: A community of creative people making sense of complex issues through data and design • RSA Animate videos which are video scribes of interesting talks from all sorts of sectors and disciplines as an innovative, accessible and unique way of illustrating and

sharing the world-changing ideas at http://www.thersa.org/events/rsaanimate • Eva-Lotta Lamm posts most of her notes and doodles like an alternative Xmas calendar on her blog http://www.evalotta.net

Books | e-books • There is a really good book by Dan Roam on the structure behind visual thinking, which i like a lot (not so much the graphic recording A-Z kinda book) Back of the

Napkin, more about it see: http://www.danroam.com/the-back-of-the-napkin/. • Brandy Agerbeck: The Graphic Facilitator's Guide (see http://www.loosetooth.com/gfg/book.htm), not only the usual how to draw but also how to listen, attitudes

needed, etc • One of the most popular how-to books specifically for sketch noting is Mike Rohde's The Sketch Note Handbook • Fundamentals of Graphic Language and Practice Book for it by David Sibbett. The practice book has exercises starting with simple strokes and building through

lettering and "seed" shapes to collections of pictographs. It also shows stroke order for all graphics and reinforces the approach used in the Fundamentals of Group Graphics Workshop to unlock natural graphic abilities. More see www.Grove.com

• Jeannel King's free e-book What you draw is good enough on http://jeannelking.com/downloads/what-you-draw-is-good-enough/ • Eva-Lotta Lamm's Sketchnotes at http://www.sketchnotesbook.com is full of her own notes from her visits of Design and User Experience events and countless talks

by inspiring speakers and panelists. This book gathers all her notes from 2012 and is also available as PDF. • The German visual facilitators around Kommunikationslotsen developed the bilingual (English/German) a series "picture dictionaries" called Bikablo, one general one,

one on emotions and one on the main group exercise formats for trainers and facilitators. More see http://kommunikationslotsen.de/shop/bikablo-trainerwoerterbuecher/.

• “UZMO - Denken mit dem Stift” by designer and visual trainer Martin Haussmann. Martin is one of the European pioneers of visual thinking and the one who has developed the forementioned “bikablo” picture dictionaries.
