Safety systems
Safety is an important aspect of any product or business activity, and in daily life everybody will have some idea of what safety means.
What does it mean that a product or process is safe?
Can anything be 100% safe? And if not, are there any criteria to
determine how safe a product or process should be?
![Page 6: Presentation on industrial relations](https://reader035.fdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062614/547896c0b4af9f34018b476d/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
The Practical Safety Process Steps
1. Identify Hazards & Assesses Risks2. Identify Desired People
Requirements3. Identify Compliance Requirements4. Ensure Safe Physical Work
Environment5. Develop Safe System of Work6. Assesses Competency7. Monitor & Review Performance

Safety barriers and risk reduction
According to Sklet (2006), factors that prevent transitions between phases in the accident sequence may be regarded as safety barriers.
The concept of safety barriers, which is often related to an accident model known as the energy model. The basic principle of the energy model, which was originally introduced by Gibson (1961), is to separate hazards (energy sources) from victims (vulnerable targets) by safety barriers (Haddon 1980).

The energy model, adapted from Haddon (1980).

Safety of Building & Machinery (Section 61)
Measures to be taken as regards the safety measures related to building and machineries.
If it appears to an Inspector that any building or part thereof or any passageway or machine of the factory is in such a condition which is injurious for the life and health of the workers working therein, the Inspector may issue an order to the owner of the factory to take necessary steps immediately within the specified time therein.
![Page 17: Presentation on industrial relations](https://reader035.fdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062614/547896c0b4af9f34018b476d/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
Fire (Section 62)
Section 62 deals with the provisions for measures to be taken by a factory to avoid dangers and damage due to fire. Measures should be taken under this section:

Fencing of machinery (Section 63)
Factories are required to secure the following parts of machinery in order to ensure safety of the workers:
Every moving part of a prime mover and every fly wheel connected to a prime mover
The head-race and tail-race of every water wheel and water turbine
Every part of an electric generator, transmission machinery and other dangerous part of any machinery.
The fencing is required to prevent the machineries from harming the workers coming in close contact to them.

Work on or near machinery on motion (Section 64)
Provisions of the labor law: In case of examining, adjusting and
lubricating part of machinery in motion, it is required to employ a well-trained adult male worker.
Women and adolescent are not allowed to do work near machineries when on motion
