• Non harmful insulating materials with minimal ozone depleting potential and global warming potential

• Green Transport Plan – promote the use of public transport and providing facilities for cyclists

• Carillion - use of video conferencing and teleconferences - encourage car sharing to reduce sub-contractor impact - monitor / meter electricty and water consumption

Our priorities:– To measure, monitor and manage ourenergy consumption;– To implement a carbon managementprogramme and reduce our CarbonFootprint; and– To reduce and recycle more of ourconsumable waste.

Almost all of MITIE’s operationsinvolve working with buildings: and asbuildings produce almost half of the UK’s

greenhouse gas emissions, MITIE has an important role to play in helping the country to meet its tough climate change targets. In the final quarter of 2006/07 wecarried out a major exercise to measure the energy, water, fuel

and waste used and produced throughout our organisation – it’s a major part of our commitment to improving how we measure and benchmark our environmental impacts against set targets. And because we don’t believe in sitting on our laurels, we've been investing to make a difference, even in the last few weeks since our environmental measurement project. Since establishing that fuel consumption is our greatest impact, at 10.8 million litres, we’ve been making improvements to the way we do things – starting right at the top. The Board has recently started a scheme across the Group to increase the use of tele and video conferencing, an initiative on which our specialist technology division will be working. MITIE is also working towards a

Carbon Cap limit of 225g/km on certainvehicle purchases in the next

financial year. for the environment
