Dot's Typical Day in Kindergarten Horizons!
I am Dalmatian dog Dot from central
European and Mediterranean country,
Republic of Croatia.
I attend International Kindergarten
Horizons in Zagreb where I meet lots of
friends from all part of the World. We
enjoy our time in multicultural
environment in English language
Here are some components of my
typical kindergarten day!
Usually I am being dropped off
by my parents around 8:30am.
The morning typically involves
morning Gathering, signing in,
individual guided reading or free
play in different thematically
related centers till the breakfast
time.
After breakfast we do our morning gym indoors or
outdoors in our playground exploring different ways of
moving:
stretching, jumping, running,
dancing, rolling
swinging, sliding and climbing
rope walking, playing different
games
exploring changes in the nature
Large group work includes:
morning circle
show and tell
storytelling, songs, group games,
imaginative play, sharing
experiences, reading writing
sorting, counting, matching
objects, making connections
seeking patterns, recognize
relationships, working with shapes,
space and measures
exploring sand and water
My teacher one day said: “It's important to establish a strong
foundation for learning in the early years, and to do so in a safe
and caring play-based environment that promotes the physical,
social, emotional and cognitive development of all children.”
Around noon we are all
ready for lunch in our
classrooms. The lunch time
is a great opportunity for
children to talk and build
social skills.
The weekly kindergarten
lunch Menu can always be
found on the info bulletin
board in the kindergarten.
After lunch we enjoy quite time, relaxing and exploring:
musical instruments and listening classical music
art activities using crayons, markers or coloured pencils
unshaped material, modal clay, science activities
picture ORT books and recognizing letters in the text
Each week in the afternoon I can
choose between different
Extracurricular activities like:
Baby gym, Capoeira
Dance or Pilates class
Art or Drama workshop
Carl Orff music workshop
German or Spanish class
At the end of the day my mum or dad pick me up and I go
home after very happy and playful day.
“I like Kindergarten because we make, learn and do lots of
stuff. I like teachers there! I like their hearts because they
share!”
Kaya, age 5, September 2013.
