What is PLC?

A PROGRAMMABLE LOGIC CONTROLLER (PLC) is an industrial computer control system that continuously monitors the state of input devices and makes decisions based upon a custom program to control the state of output devices.

Why do we learn PLC?

• In the recent years PLC plays a vital role in our automation sector. The production of Various industry like as Textile, Food & Beverage, Photochemical/chemical etc. are increasing because of using PLC.

• PLC also plays a vital role In the power sector, Aerospace & reduce complexity from various industrial sector.

• So, it don’t need to say that the use of PLC is now demand of time.

Types of PLCCompact PLC: It is built by several modules within a single case. Therefore, the I/O capabilities are decided by the manufacturer, but not by the user.

Modular PLC: is built with several components that are plugged into a common rack or bus with extendable I/O capabilities. It contains power supply module, CPU and other I/O modules that are plugged together in the same rack, which are from same manufacturers or from other manufacturers.

Soft PLC: It s an advanced PLC system that consists of compact, rack mounted components such as power supplies, I/O modules and a CPU, which embeds our powerful Soft PLC Control Software.

DescriptionCPU: It’s the unit that contains microprocessor.

Power supply unit: It’s needed to converted the main AC voltage to low DC voltage.

Input-output sections:These are where the processor receives information from external devices and communicates information to external devices.

Memory unit: It is where the program is stored that is to be used for control actions.Programming devices: It is used to entered the required program into the memory of processor.

Operation of PLCPLC operation…

Check input status: First the PLC takes a look at each I/O to determine if it is on or off.

Execute program: Next the PLC executes the program one instruction at a time.

Up date output status: Finally the PLC updates the outputs. It updates the outputs based on witch inputs were on during the first step.
