Aims and objectives

• To develop an enterprising culture in which income generation is placed at the heart of an arts organisation’s business model and ethos

• To ensure more income is generated for the arts from private giving and businesses

• To develop the skills of individuals and organisations seeking to fundraise from the private sector and individual donors

• To achieve a demonstrable change in the professionalism of the arts fundraising sector by building on, and sharing, existing good practice across the third sector

• To build a peer-to-peer leadership community which positions arts fundraising as a desirable career and which retains and develops talent

• To maximise learning through knowledge-exchange, resources and thought leadership

Headlines from our Arts Fundraising Training Survey

We had 200 responses, roughly 25% of which were from freelancers.

We’ve published an Analysis of responses on our website.

Some key themes which emerged:

• We can provide the training, but attendees need to give their time and some financial resources

• Go light on theory, heavy on practice

• It’s all about communication

• It’s lonely out there ….6

Fundraising and development training

• Half-day, full day and residential training sessions

• Taking place across England

• Targeted at people at different stages of their career / working on different scales – from independent creatives through to CEOs and Chairs of Trustees

• Sessions will be constantly evaluated and adjusted in response to feedback

Graduate Arts Fundraising Fellowships

Developing the next generation of talented arts leaders who are ‘fearless’ about fundraising and income generation.

• Largest coaching programme in the arts – to test resilience and knowledge sharing

• Action-learning sets (in each of five Arts Council regions)

• Reaching 3,500 organisations and individuals through our arts partners

• Working with Arts Council staff and Development Directors in every region to promote the Programme

• University of Leeds evaluating the Programme

• All training participants will be asked to complete pre-and post-training questionnaires

• Evaluation will be iterative, and will influence the Programme’s continuing development

• Team led by Dr David Platten, Pro-dean Arts Faculty University of Leeds

• AMA are leading on creating National Occupational Standards for Fundraising (equivalent to the Arts Marketing Standards)
