OPENING CLIP 3

Nanotechnology and its applications

OBJECTIVE

TO CREATE AWARENESS OF THE LATEST TECHNOLOGY

WHICH HAS CHANGED OUR LIVES FOR THE BETTER .

4

Outline

Definition (size & history)

Applications

Electronic & Information Technology

Sustainable Energy

Environmental Remediation

Industrial

Nanomedicine & health

Nanomedicine in treatment of cancer

Conclusion

5

Atoms build molecules or form materials.

6

Remember that everything is made of atoms.

A stone, a pen, a video game, a TV, a dog and you

too are formed by atoms.

Nanotechnology deals with the manipulation of atoms and/or

molecules to produce materials, devices and even machines.

7

One nanometer is one billionth of meter(10 -9 m).

( like the prefix “kilo” indicates one thousand).

What are Nano &Nanotechnology?

Size of a Nanoscale !

A human hair is 100,000 nanometers wide.

8

A blood vessel is 10,000 nanometers in diameter.

A bacteria is 1000 nanometers wide.

A strand of human DNA is 2.5 nanometers in diameter.

particles created colors in the stained glass windows of

medieval churches.

History

ApplicationsSome of the most important applications:

1-Generates new forms of Energy

Produces Biofuel.

Converts Sun light to Solar cell.

Prepares modern Batteries.

3-Electronic and Information Technology

It’s used in OLEDs , smart cell phone

digital cameras and laptop computers.

2-Environmental Remediation

Can made materials that purification

water, soil, air from polluted form.

5- Nanomedicine

Is currently used to cure cancer.

4- Industrial applications It’s also used in food, sports, cosmetics,

Military, Automotive etc.

10

What Is Cancer? 11

How is cancer treated?

Surgery

Radiotherapy

Immunotherapy

Hormone therapy

Gene therapy

Chemotherapy

Cancer is abnormal cells division without any control.

Name of some general cancers:

Carcinoma (skin or tissues)

Sarcoma (bone, muscle)

Leukemia (bone marrow)

Central nervous system cancers

(brain & spinal)

What is chemotherapy? 12

A category of cancer treatment that uses chemical substances.

History of chemotherapy

The first use of drugs to treat cancer was World War I by Nitrogen

Mustards gas.

Types of chemotherapy:Classical treatment

Modern treatment

Disadvantages vs Advantages 13

Advantages

1- Nanotechnology can create

smart materials and drugs.

2- Help to cure people faster and

without the side effects.

3- More effective for producing

and Storage energy.

4-Procedures will be more fast,

smaller, portable, and easier to

administer.

Disadvantages

1- The possible loss of traditional

jobs.

2- Presently, nanotechnology is

expensive.

3- Create Atomic weapons

(more powerful &destructive).

14Conclusion

1- Nanotechnology:

Will be creating many new smart and small materials , machines

and devices.

2- NanomedicineWill have so many applications which would reduce the cost and

minimize side effects of cancer .

Closing15

I WOULD LIKE TO CLOSE WITH

A HOMAGE TO :1- My uncle and cousin

2- Dear Morteza Pashai & Majide Bahrami

3- Every people whom has passed away by cancer.
