What is a Standard-Based Report Card?

• A standards-based report card highlights the most important skills students should learn in each subject at a particular grade level. In a standards-based learning environment, students receive marks that show “how well they mastered each skill.”

English Language Arts (ELA)

The ELA Section of the report card highlights: Reader’s Workshop and Writer’s Workshop.

• Reader’s Workshop includes: word analysis, vocabulary skills, how students listen/read/respond to text, and how students apply comprehension strategies.

• Writer’s Workshop includes: how a student generates ideas, writes for different purposes/audiences, organizes ideas, how students write fluent sentences, how a student applies revision skills and mechanics

Math

The Math Section of the report card highlights:• The demonstration of knowledge of

mathematical concepts• How students apply the process skills to

problem-solving (reasoning, communication, representation, making connections)

• How students utilize strategies for: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division etc.

Social Studies

The Social Studies Section of the report card highlights:

• How students demonstrate knowledge of and apply social studies concepts

• How students apply process skills (collects and interprets information from various sources; interprets maps, graphs, and other representations)

• How students use written communication effectively in this content area

applies science concepts• How students apply scientific process skills
